FOUR CINEMATIC DOCTOR WHO SPECIALS FROM AWARD WINNING TEAM

- U.S. premieres on BBC AMERICA-

For the very first time, sci-fi classic, Doctor Who, premieres on BBC AMERICA with four cinematic specials created by award-winning writer Russell T Davies (Torchwood, Queer as Folk). Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi series in television history and cultural institution in the UK. The iconic sci-fi series originally aired on the BBC from 1963 1989 and ran on over 400 PBS stations in the 80s.

Davies' slick re-imagination of Doctor Who, puts a fresh spin on the adventures of the iconic Time Lord and his feisty companions - who travel across the universe to protect Earth from dangerous aliens and terrifying monsters.

Russell T Davies and the Tenth Doctor, David Tennant, have four final specials before the baton is passed to writer Steven Moffat and young actor Matt Smith, who will regenerate as the Eleventh Doctor in a new season of the re-imagined series next year.

All four specials will air on BBC AMERICA shortly after the UK broadcast on BBC One, with the first Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead airing July 26 on BBC AMERICA. The second special, The Waters of Mars, will premiere later in the year, to be followed by two more. These four stand alone specials break down the perceived barriers of a long running series, opening the door to new audiences to enter the world of The Doctor.

Doctor Who has received two BAFTAs, including Best Drama Series in 2006, three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation: Short Form in 2006, 2007 and 2008 as well as the Saturn Award for Best International Series in 2008. Doctor Who has sparked two hit spin-off series - Torchwood, which gets its name from an anagram of Doctor Who, and a series created for children, The Sarah Jane Adventures.

DOCTOR WHO: THE WATERS OF MARS

David Tennant returns as The Doctor in The Waters Of Mars, the second of four Doctor Who specials to premiere on BBC AMERICA in 2009 and early 2010. He is joined by his cleverest and most strong-minded companion yet, Adelaide, played by acclaimed British actress Lindsay Duncan (Rome, Under the Tuscan Sun).

Adelaide is head of the Mars Base and doesn't take kindly to an uninvited appearance by The Doctor. Peter O'Brien (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Casualty) also guest stars as Ed, Adelaide's second in command. The Waters Of Mars is written by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford, directed by Graeme Harper and executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner.

Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars premieres Fall 2009 on BBC AMERICA. Two further specials will premiere late 2009 and early 2010.
