BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (ABC) - Jonathan E. Steinberg's take on the classic fairy tale has been ordered to pilot by the Alphabet. Said project, set up at ABC Studios, is detailed as being "set in a mythical, dangerous world wherein a beautiful and tough Princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast." Gary Fleder and Mary Beth Basile of Mojo Films are executive producing alongside Steinberg. Said project is not to be confused with The CW's "Beauty and the Beast" pilot, which is a revival of the cult 1987-1990 series on CBS. (Deadline.com)

FIRST CUT (A.K.A. UNTITLED JENNIE SNYDER URMAN PROJECT) (The CW) - The Jennie Snyder Urman-penned drama, about "a brand new doctor who, glad to leave her nerdy past behind for a fresh start in the adult professional world, discovers that, sadly and comically, life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school," has received the green light to produce a pilot. CBS Television Studios is behind the hour, which is being executive produced by Urman and Dan Jinks. (Deadline.com)

LIKE FATHER... (A.K.A. UNTITLED BILL LAWRENCE PROJECT) (FOX) - Bill Lawrence's comedy, centering on a father-son relationship, has formally been ordered to pilot by the network. RAY DONOVAN (Showtime) - Paula Malcomson ("Caprica") has booked the female lead on the drama pilot, about Hollywood's best professional "fixer" (Liev Schreiber), who's called in to solve the complicated, confidential and controversial problems of the city's elite. She'll play his wife, Abby, "a Boston tough girl who is still finding it hard to assimilate into the fast lane of Hollywood." Allen Coulter is helming the hour from a script by Ann Biderman. Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff also serve as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
