CITY ON FIRE (FX, New!) - Garth Risk Hallberg's upcoming novel, set in New York in the 1970s, is being eyed as a TV series by the cable channel. Said effort is set up at Scott Rudin Productions with Scott Rudin executive producing. (Deadline.com)
DONNY! (USA) - Emily Tarver, Meera Kumbhani and Fiona Robert are the latest to be cast in the upcoming Donny Deutsch-led comedy, a satirical look at the media, wealth and modern romance through the eyes of Deutsch's character, a single dad who hosts his own daytime talk show. Tarver will play Pam, "the no-nonsense Executive Producer of Donny's daytime talk show 'donny!' who he plucked from obscurity seven years ago and groomed into his show's EP"; with Kumbhani as Zoe, "Donny's second assistant, the slacker of the three who's charged with handling Donny's social obligations and social media"; and Robert as Coco, "Donny's 16-year-old daughter who loves her dad, even if he is an idiot, and is hyper-protective of her little brother." Hailey Giles, Jessica Renee Russell and Jacob Anderson also star. (Deadline.com)
GET DOWN, THE (Netflix/Sony; W: TBA; D: Baz Luhrmann) - Giancarlo Esposito is the latest to board the period drama, set in 1970s New York City, about a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers who are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them - except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. He'll play Pastor Ramon Cruz, "the charismatic head of the local Pentecostal church who attracts a flock of followers with his fiery sermons and firm, steady leadership." (THR.com)
HUNTERS (Syfy/UCP; W: Natalie Chaidez; D: TBA) - Britne Oldford ("The Flash") has scored a role on the upcoming drama, based on Whitley Strieber's best-selling novel "Alien Hunter," about how the disappearance of a decorated Philadelphia cop's wife leads him to a secret government unit assembled to hunt a group of ruthless terrorists - shadowy figures that may or may not be from this world. She'll play Regan, "a talented and valuable government operative," alongside expected co-star Nathan Phillips. (Deadline.com)
INVISIBLE ENEMY, THE (NGC, New!) - Adam Higginbotham's upcoming book, subtitled "The Untold Story of the Battle of Chernobyl," is being developed as a limited series at the cable channel. Scott Rudin is the executive producer of the project, billed as "an in-depth moment by moment account of the disaster and the horrible aftermath," via his Scott Rudin Productions banner. SOUTHERN BASTARDS (FX, New!) - A small screen take on Jason Aaron and Jason Latour's comic book, about "a power struggle between the son of a former sheriff of Craw County, Alabama who returns to a hometown controlled by a local criminal and revered head coach of the powerhouse high school football team," is currently in development at the network. Said duo will write the hour, presumably for FX Productions, with Scott Rudin Productions' Scott Rudin also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Rachel Miskowiec has been tapped as the new showrunner of daytime talk show "The Real" (Deadline.com); and Denis O'Hare is the latest returnee for FX's "American Horror Story: Hotel" (Deadline.com).
