CLASSIC, THE (ABC, New!) - Writer Todd E. Kessler and director Patricia Riggen (Under the Same Moon) are set to team for a family drama at the Alphabet "set in East Los Angeles and revolves around a legendary football rivalry between two high schools that are only five miles apart. Against the backdrop of the rivalry, the series will follow a multi-generational family all striving for the American Dream." 20th Century Fox Television is behind the hour with Mandalay Sports Media's Mike Tollin; Latin WE's Sofia Vergara, Luis Balaguera and Melissa Gelineau; and Delirio Films' Rafael Marmor, Chris Leggett and Billy McMillian also serving as executive producers. (Deadline.com)

FLATLANDS (FX, New!) - Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor) have set up a potential drama at the cable channel "set in a multi-ethnic, old-school corner of Brooklyn where a bored PTA mom reinvents herself as a local political kingpin who will do anything - including dismantling her family - to attain power." Likely Story's Anthony Bregman and Jeff Stern will also serve as executive producers with Berman and Pulcini writing and directing. No studio was indicated. (Deadline.com)
GET SHORTY (Epix) - Sarah Stiles is the latest addition to the upcoming drama, which is based on Elmore Leonard's novel-turned-feature. She'll play Gladys, "Rick's (Ray Romano) secretary. She's edgier than your typical secretary, blunt, to the point, and armed with a dry sense of humor, who dresses like she's stumbled out of a Jersey nightclub, but she's good at her job." (Deadline.com)
GOOD FIGHT, THE (CBSAA) - Gary Cole will reprise his "The Good Wife" role of Kurt McVeigh in the upcoming spin-off. No details about his character's return were given. (Deadline.com)

LINDA FROM HR (FOX, New!) - Geoff Barbanell and Itai Grunfeld ("Botcop") are back in business with the network for a new single-camera comedy about Linda, a typical human resources employee "who, bored with her life, had an affair. Unfortunately, it was a honey trap. Now, to keep the affair a secret from her family, Linda is forced to spy on her company, sabotaging it from the inside." Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan, Kat Co.'s Tracy Katsky and Dana Honor will also executive produce for 20th Century Fox Television. (Deadline.com)
NASHVILLE (CMT) - Former co-star Will Chase will return to the former ABC drama as Luke Wheeler in an upcoming episode. (Deadline.com)
OTIS THE POTUS (FOX, New!) - Richard Murphy has sold a single-camera comedy to the network about Otis Chucker, "the black sheep of a dysfunctional, blue-collar family in Cleveland, who - after his doppelgänger is elected president - cashes in his genetic lottery ticket and becomes a presidential impersonator." 20th Century Fox Television is behind the half-hour, which has a penalty attached. Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan, Kat Co.'s Tracy Katsky and Dana Honor will also executive produce. (Deadline.com)
SHELDON (CBS, New!) - The Eye is developing a prequel series to "The Big Bang Theory" which would follow "the child prodigy Sheldon character, played by Jim Parsons as an adult, at age 12." The proposed single-camera project comes from executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Parsons himself with Bill Prady also is expected to be involved in some capacity. It's understood said effort has already received a pilot order. (Deadline.com)
STRANGER THINGS (Netflix) - Paul Reiser, Sean Astin and Linnea Berthelsen are all bound for the show's second season. Reiser will play Dr. Owens, "a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a "cleanup" assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year." Astin then is set as Bob Newby, "a kind-hearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack." And finally, Berthelsen will portray Roman, "an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she mysteriously is connected to the supernatural events at the lab." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED DAVID O. RUSSELL PROJECT (Amazon, New!) - Writer/director David O. Russell (Joy) has scored a hefty two-season commitment from the streaming service in a deal valued at $160 million. Oscar winners Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore are set to star in the project, which is reportedly "a mafia crime series." The Weinstein Company is behind the project, with Russell writing and directing each eight-episode season. Alexandra Milchan, Scott Lambert, Harvey Weinstein, David Glasser and Annapurna's Megan Ellison are also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
