WEEK No. 23:
ABC finished No. 2 to Fox for the week of February 23, 2009, in Adults 18-49 (2.5/7-tie) and Adults 18-34 (2.0/6).
Rankings: The Network aired 4 of the week's Top 15 TV programs in Adults 18-49: "Lost" No. 4, "Brothers & Sisters" No. 7, "The Bachelor" No. 12 and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" No. 15. In addition, ABC claimed 3 of the Top 6 shows for the week in Women 18-34: "The Bachelor" No. 4, "Brothers & Sisters" No. 5 and "Lost" No. 6. Please note that "Grey's Anatomy" was in repeat on Thursday and "Desperate Housewives" was pre-empted on Sunday for the 2-hour "Brothers & Sisters."
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 30% currently, from 23% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
