CBS Dispands 'Brotherhood' for Sweeps

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- The hiatus list continued to grow yesterday as CBS has yanked its freshman drama "The Brotherhood of Poland, N.H." effective immediately. The Eye plans to fill the Wednesday, 10:00/9:00c hour with episodes of "48 Hours Investigates" on October 29 and November 12 as well as specials on November 5 ("The 37th Annual Country Music Association Awards") and November 19 ("Victoria's Secret Fashion Show").
"Poland" joins fellow rookies "Coupling" and "The Mullets" as well as sophomore drama "Boomtown" on the benched list. Production however has been halted on the series, which just wrapped shooting on its ninth episode. For its five airings this season, "Poland" has averaged 6.9 million total viewers and a paltry 2.2 rating/5 share in adults 18-49. That's down 14% from last year's time slot holder: the short-lived drama "Presidio Med."
CBS executives nevertheless insist the show isn't canceled and could return at a later date. With production suspended however, industry insiders say that seems unlikely.
