NBC Primetime Results for the Week of OcT. 3-9

REVISED: NBC PRIMETIME RESULTS FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 3-9

BURBANK, Calif. � October 11, 2005 � NBC averaged a 3.4 rating, 9 share in adults 18-49 and 9.7 million viewers for the week of Oct. 3-9, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

Primetime averages for the week of Oct. 3-9 in adults 18-49 were ABC (4.1/11), CBS (3.9/10), NBC (3.4/9), Fox (3.0/8), WB (1.6/4) and UPN (1.3/4). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (12.8 million), ABC (10.9 million), NBC (9.7 million), Fox (8.4 million), WB (3.8 million) and UPN (3.3 million).

NBC highlights for the week of Oct. 3-9:

* "My Name is Earl" was the week's #1 comedy in adults 18-49, as well as in adults 18-34 and adults 25-54, and the week's #1 first-year series in 18-34 and 18-49. On Tuesday, the third episode of "Earl" was up 18 percent versus its prior-week performance in 18-49 and was #1 in its hotly competitive time period in the demographic, beating ABC's "Commander-in-Chief," CBS' "Amazing Race" and Fox's baseball playoff game.

* Also on Tuesday, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" was television's top-rated show of the night in 18-49, delivering its top demographic rating since January.

* On Monday, "Las Vegas" delivered its highest 18-49 rating since February and its largest overall viewership since November 2004. "Las Vegas" was #1 for its highly competitive hour among non-sports program in 18-49.

* On Wednesday, "E-Ring" and "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, " switching time periods, were each up 19 percent in 18-49 versus their week-earlier results.

* On Sunday, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" built on its lead-in by 63 percent to score its highest regular-slot 18-49 rating since March 20.

Additional NBC highlights for the week of Oct. 3-9

On Monday, Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. ET "Las Vegas" (4.8 rating 11 share in 18-49, 13.6 million viewers overall) delivered its highest 18-49 rating since Feb. 21 and its largest overall viewership since Nov. 8, 2004. It was the #1 non-sports program in the hour, outperforming CBS' comedies and Fox's "Prison Break."

Also on Monday, at 8 p.m. ET, the third telecast of "Surface" (3.0/8 in 18-49, 9.5 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the hour in adults 18-49 and total viewers, posting a 3 percent increase in 18-49 versus the prior week. And "Medium" from 10-11 p.m. ET (4.6/11 in 18-49, 12.9 million viewers overall) was up 59 percent in 18-49 versus NBC's performance in the time period the same night last year (4.6 vs. 2.9 for "LAX").

On Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. ET, the third episode of "My Name is Earl" (6.0/15 in 18-49, 13.2 million viewers overall) ranked #1 for the half-hour in adults 18-49, beating ABC's "Commander-in-Chief" (4.6/11 in that half-hour), CBS' "Amazing Race" (4.1/10 in that half-hour) and Fox's baseball playoff (3.6/10 in that half-hour). "Earl" was up 18 percent in adults 18-49 versus its prior-week performance, delivering the second-highest 18-49 rating for any half-hour comedy on any network this season, trailing only its own Sept. 20 premiere telecast. "Earl" is the season's #1 new series and #1 comedy in 18-49.

Also on Tuesday, at 10 p.m. ET, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.2/13 in 18-49, 16.2 million viewers overall) delivered its highest 18-49 rating since Jan. 11 and won its time period decisively by all key measures. "SVU" was the top-rated show on television Tuesday night in 18-49 and season-to-date is Tuesday's top-ranked drama in adults 18-49. From 8-9 p.m. ET that night, "The Biggest Loser" (3.4/9 in 18-49, 8.4 million viewers overall) was #2 in 18-49 and #1 in adults 18-34, and from 9:30-10 p.m. ET, "The Office" (3.9/9 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) won its half-hour in adults 18-34.

On Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET, "E-Ring" (2.5/7 in 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall) scored NBC's highest rating in this time period so far this season. Versus its program average the prior week at 9 p.m., "E-Ring" was up 19 percent in 18-49 (2.5 vs. 2.1). At 9 p.m. ET, "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart" (2.5/7 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall) scored its highest 18-49 rating to date, up 19 percent versus its results the prior week in the 8 p.m. hour (2.5 vs. 2.1). At 10 p.m. ET, "Law & Order" (4.0/10 in 18-49, 12.6 million viewers overall) built on its 18-49 lead-in by 60 percent. From 10:30-11 p.m. ET, "Law & Order" outperformed ABC's "Invasion" in adults 18-49 (4.1 vs. 4.0), erasing a 1.1-rating-point advantage for "Invasion" in the previous half-hour (4.8 vs. 3.9).

On Thursday, Oct. 6, "Joey" from 8-8:30 p.m. ET (3.0/9 in 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) and "Will & Grace" from 8:30-9 p.m. ET (3.7/10 in 18-49, 8.4 million viewers overall) both ranked #2 in adults 18-49. At 9 p.m. ET, "The Apprentice" (4.5/11 in 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in 18-49, outscoring the slot's #3-ranked telecast by 61 percent (4.5 vs. 2.8 for Fox's baseball playoff game).

Thursday's "ER" ranked #7 out of 117 ranked network programs this week in adults 18-49. From 9:59-11 p.m. ET, "ER" (6.3/16 in 18-49, 14.2 million viewers overall) built on its 18-49 lead-in by 40 percent, reducing CBS' time period lead from a 118 percent advantage in the previous hour (9.8 vs. 4.5) to 8 percent (6.8 vs. 6.3).

On Friday, Oct. 7, a special two-hour "Three Wishes" averaged a 2.0/6 in 18-49 and 6.9 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET. "Three Wishes" built from its first to its second hour by 44 percent (to a 2.3 from a 1.6). In its regular 9-10 p.m. ET time period, "Three Wishes" delivered a 2.3/7 in 18-49, finishing #2 for the slot, only one-tenth of a rating point out of first place.

NBC won Saturday, Oct. 8 in adults 18-49 with its highest Saturday average since March 5. It's NBC's first Saturday win excluding movie nights since Nov. 1, 2003. From 8:30-10 p.m. ET, three rebroadcasts of the new comedy "My Name is Earl" averaged a 2.3/7 in 18-49 and 5.8 million viewers overall, matching NBC's highest rating in the 90-minute block since Jan. 22. At 10 p.m. ET, an encore "Law & Order: SVU" (2.7/8 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall) tied for the night's #1 primetime network telecast in 18-49 and matched NBC's highest demographic rating in the hour since March 12.

On Sunday, Oct. 9 at 9 p.m. ET, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (3.9/8 in 18-49, 12.9 million viewers overall) built on its 18-49 lead-in by 63 percent to score its highest regular-time-period rating since March 20. At 10 p.m. ET, "Crossing Jordan" (3.9/9 in 18-49, 12.9 million viewers overall) retained 100 percent of its lead-in. At 8 p.m. ET, "The West Wing" (2.4/6 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall) was up 14 percent in 18-49 versus both its lead-in and versus its week-ago performance.
