ABC Leads Thursday in Adults 18-34 for the Seventh Straight Week, While Drawing its Biggest Audience on the Night Since Season Premiere Thursday

Building its Adult 18-49 Audience for the Third Week in a Row, "Ugly Betty" Produces its Top Viewer and Young Adult Results Since its Season Premiere

The No. 1 Show on Thursday in Adults 18-49 for the Seventh Consecutive Week, ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" Attracts its Biggest Audience Since its Season Opener

During the 10 O'clock Hour ABC's Freshman "Big Shots" Takes Second, Outpacing NBC's Veteran "ER" Among Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34

Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC won its seventh straight Thursday among Adults 18-34, beating out second-place CBS by 29% on the night (4.9/14 vs. 3.8/10). The Net took second place on the night in Viewers (12.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (5.0/13), as CBS received a substantial boost this week from 9:00-11:00 p.m., resulting from a crossover episode between "C.S.I." and "Without a Trace."

Despite the stiff competition from CBS on the evening, ABC attracted its biggest audience on the night in 6 weeks best since season premiere Thursday on 9/27/07.

"Ugly Betty" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Holding second to CBS' "Survivor: China" from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC's "Ugly Betty" outdelivered its NBC comedy competition in the hour ("My Name is Earl"/"30 Rock") by 3.8 million viewers (10.9 million vs. 7.1 million) and by 9% in Adults 18-49 (3.5/9 vs. 3.2/9). "Betty" ranked No. 1 in its time slot among Adults 18-34 (3.2/9) and Women 18-34 (4.8/13). In fact the ABC sophomore series won its time period for the seventh week in a row among its core audience of Women 18-34, beating out second-place "Survivor: China" by 55% (4.8/13 vs. 3.1/9).

Building its Adult 18-49 audience for the third week in a row, ABC's "Ugly Betty" generated its largest overall audience and top Adult 18-49 number in 6 weeks since 9/27/07, with its season premiere.

"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" won the 9 o'clock hour and stood as Thursday's No. 1 television program across each of the key adult demographics: Adults 18-34 (8.1/20), Adults 18-49 (7.9/18) and Adults 25-54 (8.2/18). In its time period, "Grey's" beat out CBS' "C.S.I." by 23% in Adults 18-49 (7.9/18 vs. 6.4/15). It's the seventh straight week that "Grey's Anatomy" has been Thursday's No. 1 program in the key young adult sales demographic.

"Grey's Anatomy" delivered its largest audience (19.3 million) since its season opener 6 weeks ago on 9/27/07.

"Big Shots" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

In the final hour of the night against veteran dramas on CBS (a cross-over episode of "Without a Trace" with "C.S.I.") and NBC ("ER"), ABC's freshman "Big Shots" ranked No. 2 among Adults 18-34 (3.5/10) and Women 18-34 (4.8/13), ahead of NBC.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from approximately 9% at this time last year up to nearly 21% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
