UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. � July 21, 2009 � Paced by "America's Got Talent," which last week delivered the biggest overall viewership for any non-sports telecast on any network since the May finale of "American Idol," NBC tied for #2 in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49 for the week of July 13-19, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research. For the week, NBC averaged a 1.4 rating, 5 share in 18-49 and 5.3 million viewers overall.

The Tuesday and Wednesday editions of "America's Go Talent" were the #1 and #2 non-sports programs of the week in most key measures, including adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers, trailing only Major League Baseball's All-Star Game telecasts. It's the fourth week in a row "America's Got Talent" has generated the #1 non-sports rating in adults 18-49 and total viewers.

Primetime averages for the week of July 13-19 in adults 18-49 were Fox (2.1/7), CBS and NBC (1.4/5), Univision and ABC (1.3/4), Telemundo (0.4/1) and CW (0.3/1). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were Fox and CBS (6.2 million), NBC (5.3 million), ABC (4.2 million), Univision (3.2 million), Telemundo (1.0 million) and CW (0.9 million).

Season to date, NBC is running within 0.8 of a rating point of first place in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49, versus a deficit of 1.3 points at this time last season.

NBC highlights for the week of July 13-19:

* On Tuesday, "America's Got Talent" delivered the biggest overall viewership for any non-sports telecast on any network since the May 20 finale of "American Idol."

* Tuesday's "Talent" surged 23 percent in adults 18-49 and 28 percent or 2.9 million persons in total viewers versus the prior week, despite competition last week from Major League Baseball's All Star Game and the arrival of CBS's "Big Brother" in the time period.

* On Wednesday, "America's Got Talent" scored the night's top 18-49 and total-viewer results for any program on any network, outperforming Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" in head-to-head competition and in full duration averages, and also outscoring ABC's 8-9 p.m. telecast of "Wipeout," as well as all other primetime programs that night.

* Wednesday's 8 p.m. encore of "America's Got Talent" delivered NBC's biggest overall audience in that time slot in more than four months, since February 25.

* On Thursday, encore telecasts of "30 Rock" and "The Office" each scored their highest 18-49 ratings of the summer to date.

* Also on Thursday, "The Listener" increased by 57 percent in 18-49 rating and 17 percent in total viewers versus the prior week, to deliver its best results by both measures since June 11. "The Listener" ranked #2 among the broadcast networks in adults 18-49 and total viewers.

* On Friday, "Dateline NBC" reported the top 18-49 and total-viewer results for any network that night and won its two-hour time period in all meaningful measures, including adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers. This marks the fourth Friday in five weeks that "Dateline" reported the top results for any broadcast network in both 18-49 and total viewers.

* NBC ranked #1 in adults 18-49 on Friday night, marking the sixth time in seven weeks that the network has won Friday in primetime's key demographic

* On Sunday, "Meteor, Part 2" generated NBC's biggest overall audience in the Sunday 9-11 p.m. ET slot since May 31 and combined with last week's Part 1 to produce NBC's two best total-viewer results in the slot over that span.

* Also on Sunday, "Merlin" conjured week-to-week gains of 22 percent in adults 18-49 and 19 percent in total viewers.

Ratings reflect "live plus same day" data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of "live plus seven day" data except for the two most recent weeks, which are "live plus same day."

Additional NBC highlights for the week of July 13-19:

On Monday July 13 at 8 p.m. ET, "Great American Road Trip" averaged a 0.9 rating, 3 share in adults 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers overall. At 9 p.m. ET, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 11 percent in adults 18-49 and 30 percent in total viewers.

Monday at 10 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" (1.5/4 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the broadcast networks in the time slot in total viewers and other key measures.

On Tuesday, July 14 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" (1.9/7 in 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall) tied CBS's "NCIS" encore as the #1 non-sports choice in the hour among adults 18-49 and was the #1 non-sports choice outright among women 18-49 and adults, men and women 18-34. In head-to-head competition from 8-9 p.m., the "Talent" encore topped a first-run telecast of ABC's "Superstars" by 73 percent in adults 18-49 (1.9 vs. 1.1) and by 106 percent or 3.9 million persons in total viewers (7.5 million vs. 3.6 million).

Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, "America's Got Talent" (3.7/11 in adults 18-49, 13.5 million viewers overall) delivered the biggest overall audience for any non-sports telecast on any network since the "American Idol" finale on May 20. In adults 18-49, "Talent" matched the highest 18-49 rating for any non-sports telecast on any broadcast network, equaling the June 30 edition of "Talent."

Despite competition last week from Major League Baseball's All-Star Game and the arrival of CBS's "Big Brother" in the time period, "America's Got Talent" increased versus the prior week by 23 percent in adults 18-49 (3.7/11 vs. 3.0/9) and by 28 percent or 2.9 million persons in total viewers (13.5 million vs. 10.6 million). "Talent" dominated the Tuesday debut of "Big Brother" in all key ratings categories, topping "Brother" by a 76 percent margin in adults 18-49 (3.7 vs. 2.1) and by 119 percent or nearly 7.4 million persons in total viewers (13.5 million vs. 6.2 million).

"America's Got Talent" was the top non-sports choice in the 9-10 p.m. hour in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54, total viewers and all key adult-male demos. "Talent" ranked #1 in the hour outright, topping baseball, in all key adult-female demos � women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.

Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) was the time period's #1 non-sports choice in adults 18-49, total viewers and most other key ratings measures. "SVU" locked up its highest 18-49 rating for an encore telecast since May 26.

On Wednesday July 15 from 8-9 p.m. ET, the encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" (1.6/6 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall) delivered NBC's biggest overall viewership in this slot in more than four months (since February 25) and matched NBC's highest 18-49 rating in the hour in five weeks (since June 10). From its first half-hour to its second, the 8 p.m. ET "Talent" encore increased by 29 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.8/6 rating from a 1.4/5).

Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, "America's Got Talent" (3.0/9 in 18-49, 11.6 million viewers overall) generated the #1 results of the night in adults 18-49 and total viewers, out-delivering Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" in both head-to-head competition and in full duration averages. "Talent" also outscored ABC's 8-9 p.m. telecast of "Wipeout" and all other primetime programs on the broadcast networks Wednesday night.

"America's Got Talent" posted dramatic growth in the Wednesday 9 p.m. ET time period versus NBC's pre-"Talent" summer average in the slot -- including gains of 76 percent in adults 18-49 (3.0 vs. 1.7), 75 percent in adults 18-34 (2.1 vs. 1.2) and 81 percent in adults 25-54 (3.8 vs. 2.1).

Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET, "The Philanthropist" averaged a 1.1/3 in 18-49 and 4.3 million viewers overall.

NBC ranked #1 Wednesday night in total viewers.

On Thursday, July 16 from 8-8:30 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "30 Rock" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall) attracted NBC's biggest overall audience in the time period in four weeks. "30 Rock" ranked #2 among the broadcast networks in the time period in men 18-49.

Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "The Office" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among the broadcast networks in men 18-34.

Thursday at 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "The Office" (1.4/5 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall) delivered the show's highest 18-49 rating of the summer to date. "The Office" ranked #1 in the time slot among men 18-34 (tied).

Thursday from 9:31-10:01 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "30 Rock" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall) scored that show's highest 18-49 rating of the summer to date. "30 Rock" ranked #2 in the time slot in adults 18-34 and men 18-34.

Thursday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Listener" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) increased week-to-week by 57 percent in 18-49 rating (1.1/4 vs. a 0.7/2) and by 17 percent in total viewers (3.9 million vs. 3.3 million) to deliver its highest results in both measures since June 11. "The Listener" ranked #2 among the broadcast networks in the time period in adults 18-49 and total viewers.

On Friday, July 17 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Chopping Block" averaged a 0.6/3 in 18-49 and 2.2 million viewers overall.

From 9-11 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" (1.4/5 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall) reported the #1 18-49 and total-viewer results for any network Friday night and won its time period in all meaningful measures, including adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers.

This marks the fourth Friday in five weeks that "Dateline" has reported the top results for any broadcast network in both 18-49 and total viewers.

NBC ranked #1 in adults 18-49 on Friday night, marking the sixth time in seven weeks that the network has won Friday in primetime's key demographic.

On Saturday, July 18 at 8 p.m. ET, "Kings" averaged a 0.4/2 in 18-49 and 1.6 million viewers overall.

Saturday at 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (0.7/3 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall) built from its first half-hour to its second by 33 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 0.8 from a 0.6) and 30 percent in total viewers (to 3.7 million from 2.9 million). "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" ranked #2 in the time period in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key ratings categories.

Saturday from 10-11 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) tied for #1 in the time period in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 and won the hour outright in men 18-49. "SVU" built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 43 percent in adults 18-49 and 29 percent in total viewers.

On Sunday, July 19 from 7-8 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) finished within one share of the time-period lead in adults 18-49 and tied for #1 among women 25-54.

Sunday from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Merlin" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall) increased week-to-week by 22 percent in 18-49 rating (1.1 vs. 0.9) and 19 percent in total viewers (4.4 million vs. 3.7 million).

Sunday from 9-11 p.m. ET, "Meteor, Part 2" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall) built on last week's results for Part 1 by 9 percent in 18-49 (1.2 vs. 1.1) and 3 percent in total viewers. "Meteor, Part 2" generated NBC's biggest overall viewership in the time period since May 31 and combined with last week's Part 1 to produce NBC's two best total-viewer results in the slot over that span.

From its first half-hour to its fourth, "Meteor, Part 2" increased by 40 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.4 from a 1.0) and by 24 percent or more than 1.1 million persons in total viewers (to 5.9 million from 4.7 million).

For its concluding hour from 10-11 p.m. ET, "Meteor, Part 1" was #1 among the broadcast networks in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and all key adult-male demos, topping the ABC-CBS competition combined in men 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54 in that hour.
