"60 MINUTES" MAKES THE TOP 10

Lead Story on Homeless School Children Generates Outpouring of Help Offerings and Comments

60 MINUTES made the Nielsen Top 10 at # 8 this week, drawing 12.24 million viewers to win its time period, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Sunday, March 6.

The broadcast's lead story, a Scott Pelley report on homeless school children in Central Florida, attracted hundreds of offers to help from as far away as Japan and generated hundreds more phone comments and online discussion. The story, featured on 60Minutes.com and 60MinutesOvertime.com, was the most-watched video on CBSNews.com, performing 200-percent higher than the average newsmakers' video on 60 MINUTES. Social media referrals for it were 38 percent above normal.

The program also featured Steve Kroft profiling Vanity Fair columnist and author Christopher Hitchens, who is suffering from stage four cancer, and a Bob Simon report from the Arctic Circle showing the secret world of polar bears that can only be captured by "spy cams."

60 MINUTES is America's number-one news broadcast and among all primetime television programs rated by Nielsen in the 2010-'11 season, it ranks 12th .
