"The Closer" and "Rizzoli & Isles" Rank as the Top 2 Scripted Programs Last Week on Basic Cable

TNT's blockbuster series The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles continued their terrific summer run by ranking as the Top 2 scripted programs last week on basic cable. Rizzoli & Isles scored an outstanding 8.8 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery, its biggest L+3 audience for the season-to-date. Among key demos, Rizzoli & Isles chalked up 2.4 million adults 18-49 and 3.3 million adults 25-54. The Closer drew a strong 8.6 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery, the hit series' second-biggest L+3 audience of the season-to-date. The Closer also garnered 2.3 million adults 18-49 and 3 million adults 25-54.

TNT's powerful performance in time-shifted viewing provided the network's original dramas with major gains. The Aug. 22 episode of Rizzoli & Isles grew to 8.9 million viewers in Live + 7, with 2.5 million adults 18-49 and 3.1 million adults 25-54. The Closer scored an outstanding 8.8 million viewers in Live +7 for its Aug. 22 episode, with 2.4 million adults 18-49 and 3.2 million adults 25-54. Meanwhile, the Aug. 28 summer finale of TNT's hit caper drama Leverage grew to 4.5 million viewers, 1.7 million adults 18-49 and 2.1 million adults 25-54.

Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network's Monday and Tuesday night's line-up of animated comedies (7-9 p.m.) ranked as television' s #1 destinations for boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14. Monday night's across-the-board growth included 14% delivery gains among boys 2-11 (958,000), 16% among boys 6-11 (756,000) and 36% among boys 9-14%. Kids 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14 average delivery also increased between 8% and 27%. Tuesday night posted double and triple gains across all demos - kids 2-11 average delivery (1,281,000) jumped by 96%, kids 6-11 (936,000) by 108%, kids 9-14 (564,000) by 91%, and boys demo delivery between 85% and 93%.

Among the programming stand-outs, Adventure Time (Monday, 8 p.m.) stood at as the #1 telecast of the week on all television among boys 9-14, and ranked among the Top 5 series on cable among kids 9-14, boys 6-11 and boys 2-11. Scoring its highest episode delivery to date among all demos, the original animated series ranked #1 in its time period among all kid and boys demos. The strength of Adventure Time's record-setting performance - which attracted more than 3.3 million viewers 2+ - helped propel Cartoon Network's Monday night to its best performance 2011-to-date among total viewers. The Looney Tunes Show (Tuesday, 8 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period on all television among kids 2-11, and boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14. The animated series grew by triple digits across ALL kids and boys demos vs. the same time period last year, ranging between 123% and 253%.

Wednesday night ranked as television's #1 destination in Early Evening (7-9 p.m.) among boys 6-11. Original series Dude, What Would Happen (Wednesday, 8 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all boys.

Adult Swim

Adult Swim's newest original series STSF:SD:SUV:: (Thursday, 12:15 a.m.) scored double-digit delivery gains vs. the same time period last year among all targeted demos - adults 18-34 (594,000) grew by 29%, adults 18-49 (769,000) grew by 17%, men 18-34 (376,000) grew by 34% and men 18-49 (483,000) grew by 21%.

Adult Swim once more claimed the #1 ranking for Total Day Delivery of adults 18-34 and 18-49, and men 18-34. Averaging double-digit delivery growth across the board vs. the time period last year, adults 18-34 (580,000) increased by 22%, adults 18-49 (779,000) increased by 20% and men 18-34 (349,000) increased by 22%. Men 18-49 demo delivery also grew by 19%, women 18-34 by 23% and women 18-49 by 22%.

Adult Swim programming - including Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Childrens Hospital and American Dad - accounted for 22 of the top 50 telecasts for the week on basic cable among adults 18-34, and 24 of the top 50 among men 18-34, both more than any other network.

truTV

truTV enjoyed a particularly strong week, ranking among ad-supported cable's Top 10 networks in primetime delivery of men 18-34 and men 18-49. truTV also ranked among cable's Top 10 entertainment networks with adults 18-49, outperforming such competitors as Syfy, Discovery and Comedy Central.

truTV's breakout hit Hardcore Pawn hit an all-time series high on Tuesday, delivering a remarkable 2.5 million viewers. The constantly growing series, which also scored personal bests among young adult demos, drove truTV to its best Tuesday night ever among viewers and key adults, as well as Top 5 primetime rankings among adults 18-49 and men 18-49.

Wednesday night, the long-running hit Operation Repo chalked up more than 1.4 million viewers at 9 p.m. and scored a Top 5 basic cable ranking for its timeslot among men 18-34 and 18-49. The show also pulled in double-digit time-period growth compared to the same night last year.

Wipeout continues to be a strong acquisition for truTV, with Friday's 8 and 9 p.m. episodes averaging 1.1 million viewers. The 8 p.m. episode delivered double-digit timeslot growth, while the 9 p.m. episode ranked among ad-supported cable's Top 5 entertainment programs for the hour with men 18-49.

TBS

TBS kept audiences laughing on Labor Day with a trio of blockbuster movies. The triple feature included the animated hit Shrek 2, which enchanted 2.5 million viewers and ranked as basic cable's #1 movie for the week among adults 18-34.

TBS's Emmy(R)-nominated late-night series CONAN returned with new episodes last week, averaging 619,000 viewers; 280,000 adults 18-34; and 420,000 adults 18-49 in Live + Same Day. The show also scored a median age of 33, maintaining its position as television's youngest late-night talk show.
