Turner Broadcasting Networks Topped the Charts for October, With TBS Ranking as Basic Cable's #1 Entertainment Networks Among Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 in Primetime

Turner Broadcasting networks topped the charts for October, with TBS ranking as basic cable's #1 entertainment networks among total viewers and adults 18-49 in primetime and Adult Swim scoring victories among adults 18-34 and adults 18-49 in total day. Adult Swim also ranked as one of basic cable's Top 5 entertainment networks in primetime for the month with key adults.

In total day, Turner Broadcasting claimed four of basic cable's Top 10 most-watched networks for October, with Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, TBS and TNT all making the chart. In addition, TNT was one of basic cable's Top 5 entertainment networks among adults 25-54 in total day. And Cartoon Network chalked up exceptional total-day growth, including a +26% increase among kids 6-11 and an +18% increase with kids 2-11.

TBS

TBS took the top spot as basic cable's #1 entertainment network in primetime among total viewers and adults 18-49 for the month of October. TBS also continued to expand its lead as basic cable's #1 network with adults 18-49 in primetime for the year-to-date.

Last week's season premiere of TBS's American Dad! has climbed to 2.7 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery for the launch on TBS and encore on Adult Swim. When combined with digital plays and preliminary VOD, the season premiere's reach grows to 3.2 million viewers. In key demos, the American Dad! premiere has so far garnered 1.8 million adults 18-49 and 1.3 million adults 18-34 in Live + 3 delivery.

TBS's ambush game show Deal With It returned Friday night with a preliminary Live + Same Day audience of more than 1.1 million viewers for the fall premiere and encore.

The Big Bang Theory on TBS continued to reign supreme in October, ranking as basic cable's #1 sitcom for the month among total viewers and adults 18-49.

Adult Swim

Across October 2014, Adult Swim claimed its ratings crown by ranking as basic cable's #1 television network in total day among adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24 & 18-34.

Among Adult Swim's original animated programming, new series Mr. Pickles (Sunday, 11:30 p.m.) and established series Squidbillies (11:45 p.m.) both grew average delivery among men 18-24 vs. October 2013. Saturday night TOONAMI series Attack on Titan (11:30 p.m.), Bleach (12 a.m.), and Naruto: Shippuden (12:30 a.m.) also increased average delivery among men 18-24 vs. their 2013 time periods. American Dad (Monday, 10 p.m.) also grew delivery of adults 18-49 and all targeted male demos vs. October 2013.

Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network ranked as television's #1 network for Early Prime (6-8 p.m.) delivery of kids 2-11 and all targeted boy demos for October 2014. It was also the #1 network for total day delivery of boys 6-11 & 9-14. Prime delivery compared to October 2013 grew significantly across the board. with increases of +16% among kids 2-11, +18% among kids 6-11 and +17% among kids 9-14. Total day delivery showed even stronger gains, rising +22% among kids 2-11, +32% among kids 6-11, and +24% among kids 9-14 vs. October 2013.

Overall this month, Cartoon Network took TV's Top 16 telecasts among boys 6-11.

Continuing the streak started last summer, Cartoon Network charted as the #1 television destination vs. all TV networks among kids/boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 on Thursday Night (6-8 p.m.). The evening performance increased by dramatic double digits across all targeted demos, ranging between 71% and 94%. Original animated series Teen Titans Go! (6 p.m.), Clarence (6:30 p.m.), Steven Universe (6:45 p.m.) and The Amazing World of Gumball (7 p.m.) all ranked #1 in their time periods among kids and boy demos. All Thursday night new episode premieres grew audience delivery across the board by double and triple digits vs. October 2013, between 43% and 121%.

Earning delivery gains over last year throughout the week in Early Prime (6-8 p.m.), Cartoon Network was the #1 destination on all television among kids 2-11 & 6-11 and all targeted boys on Tuesday & Wednesday Nights, #1 among kids 2-11 & all targeted boys on Monday Night, and #1 among all targeted boys on Friday Night.

Saturday Morning programming (7-11 a.m.) earned year-over-year gains this October among all targeted kids and boy demos. Legends of Chima (7:30 a.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among boys 6-11/9-14, while Pokémon the Series XY (8 a.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among boys 9-14.

TNT

The international hit Transporter The Series stayed strong in its second week on TNT, with Saturday night's back-to-back episodes averaging an initial audience of more than 1.8 million viewers in Live + Same Day delivery across the primetime telecasts and late-night encores. With initial digital plays, time-shifted viewing and preliminary VOD factored in, Transporter The Series' reach climbs to 3.1 million viewers.

Friday night's episode of On the Menu has so far brought in 808,000 viewers in Live + Same Day delivery for the premiere and encore.

With Live + 7 data now available, the Oct. 8 season finale of TNT's Legends has grown its reach to a final tally of 3.4 million viewers across multiple platforms.

NBA TV

NBA TV's "Season Preview" episode of Open Court on Oct. 21 averaged 164,000 total viewers, an +80% increase over the comparable telecast last year. The show grew +49% among total viewers, +100% among men 18-49 and +98% among men 25-54 when compared to its overall premiere average. Compared with the same week last year, NBA TV delivered +11% more total viewers and double-digit growth in key demos, including +16% with men 18-49 and +12% with adults 18-49.
