8 COUNT (FOX, New!) - Erika L. Johnson is spearheading a new drama at the network "inspired by the life of famed choreographer and creative director Laurieann Gibson, [that] follows a young choreographer who, in order to redeem her damaged reputation in the cutthroat music/dance world, must invest in an up-and-coming singer, who also has one last shot at stardom." The Jackal Group's Gail Berman and Joe Earley also serve as executive producers, as do Gibson and multi-Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige. A penalty is attached. (Deadline.com)
AFFAIR, THE (Showtime) - Russell Hornsby, Tim Matheson and Dina Meyer are all bound for the new season as Carl Gatewood, "Janelle's (Sanaa Lathan) ex-husband and Noah's (Dominic West) rival for her affection"; and "a couple from Alison's (Ruth Wilson) past, who have shocking information to share about who she is and where she comes from," respectively. (Deadline.com)
CRUSHERS CLUB (NBC, New!) - Virgil Williams (Mudbound) has set up a potential drama at the Peacock about "a struggling boxing gym, which serves as a second home for kids in one of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods. The gym gains an unlikely ally in Sonia, a single mom from the suburbs who has found new purpose in her life." One Race Television's Vin Diesel will also executive produce for Universal Television with the company's Shana C. Waterman as a co-executive producer. (THR.com)
EMPIRE (FOX) - The network's flagship drama will take a two-to-three week production hiatus "for the writers to regroup for the season's back nine." (Deadline.com)
HOW MAY WE HATE YOU (ABC, New!) - Justin Noble has booked a single-camera comedy at the Alphabet about "two inseparable guest-services associates at a high-end resort property and the co-workers and hotel guests that they're stuck with for eight to 16 hours a day." CBS Television Studios is behind the half-hour, which has a penalty attached and is based on Anna Drezen and Todd Dakotah Briscoe's blog-turned-book of the same name. Trill TV's Wendy Trilling and Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor are the executive producers with Noble as a co-executive producer. A multi-camera comedy adaptation was in the works under a different writer, Warren Lieberstein, at CBS last season. (Deadline.com)
MAGICIANS, THE (Syfy) - Felicia Day has been cast in the new season as Poppy: "A postgraduate fellow from Brakebills who is discovered in Fillory doing interesting field work as a Dragonologist, Poppy feels destined to help the gang reinstate magic to universe." (Nerdist.com)
MICK, THE (FOX) - The network has ordered seven additional episodes of the show's sophomore run, bringing its season total to 20. (Deadline.com)
REUNITED (NBC, New!) - Matt Lopez has sold a new drama to the network inspired by the life of Pamela Slaton, "the country's foremost investigative genealogist, who uses her wits, detective skills and take-no-prisoners attitude to track down long-lost loved ones and reunite broken families." Adam Rodin and Epidemic Pictures & Management's Darryl Taja will also executive produce for Universal Television with Slaton herself serving as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
