BRIARPATCH (USA) - Andy Greenwald took to social media this evening with the news the series will not return for a second season. He has since signed a new overall deal with producer Universal Content Productions. (@andygreenwald)
BRUJO (HBO Max, New!) - Diego Boneta is attached to star in a potential limited series at the streaming service "inspired by the true story of the infamous Adolfo Constanzo and the power he acquired as his acts of dark magic came to light. The series will play out through the eyes of his two most unlikely followers who helped Constanzo in his rise to fame as the go-to witch doctor for celebrities, politicians, high-ranking police officers, and powerful crime families, through his evolution into a notorious cult leader and serial killer." Writer Daniel Krauze, director Humberto Hinojosa and producer Pablo Garcia are spearheading the project for Legendary Television with Boneta also executive producing. (Variety.com)
DUNCANVILLE (FOX) - Rashida Jones, Wiz Khalifa and Joy Osmanski have been promoted to regulars on the animated comedy. Jones voices Mia, "Duncan's on-again, off-again crush"; with Khalifa as Mr. Mitch, "a favorite teacher among students"; and Osmanski as Jing, "Duncan's adopted younger sister who idolizes and has a massive crush on her older brother." (Deadline.com)
HOME ECONOMICS (ABC) - Caitlin McGee, Karla Souza, Sasheer Zamata and Shiloh Bearman are all bound for the Topher Grace-led comedy pilot, about three adult siblings: one in the 1 percent, one middle-class, and one barely holding on. McGee plays the oldest sibling, Sarah, "a therapist for at-risk kids, married to a teacher, and they're often scraping to make ends meet"; with Souza as Marina, "a former lawyer married to struggling novelist Tom (Grace)"; Zamata as Denise, "a superhumanly patient public-school teacher married to Sarah (McGee)"; and Bearman as Gretchen, "third sibling Connor's seven-year-old daughter." (Deadline.com)
KENAN (NBC) - Don Johnson, Chris Redd and Kimrie Lewis have all been cast in the revamped Kenan Thompson-led comedy, about a recently widowed host of Atlanta's #2 morning show who struggles to balance his job and his young daughters (Dani Lockett, Dannah Lockett). David Caspe has likewise signed on as showrunner, co-creating the new incarnation with original writer Jackie Clarke. Johnson will replace Andy Garcia as Rick (FKA Percy), Kenan's father-in-law; while Lewis taking over for Punam Patel as Mika (FKA Erica), Kenan's loyal friend and co-worker. Redd then will play a new character, Gary, Kenan's brother. Broadway Video's Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer also executive produce for Universal Television. It's not clear if Chris Rock, who helmed the original pilot, will return as director. (Deadline.com)
YOURS, MINE & PAUL (ABC, New!) - Julia Meltzer has sold a new comedy to the Alphabet about Lauren, "who agrees to be a surrogate for her best friend, Paul, and his husband, Xander. There's just one problem: Lauren and Xander hate each other. Oh, also Paul dies in the cold open." The project is set up at Ty Burrell's newly launched Desert Whale Productions, which recently signed a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Burrell executive produces alongside Meltzer, Mel Cowan, Jonny Meeks and Joel Spence. (Deadline.com)
