DAY OF THE DEAD (Syfy) - Steven Kostanski has been tapped to direct and executive produce the first four episodes of the network's ode to George A. Romero, the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. In addition, the 10-episode series has cast Keenan Tracey as Cam McDermott, "a high school senior and son of a local police detective who spends his free time working odd jobs to get out of his small Pennsylvania hometown"; Daniel Doheny as Luke Bowman, "the son of town mayor, Paula Bowman"; Natalie Malaika as Lauren Howell, "a sarcastic assistant mortician at the local mortuary"; Morgan Holmstrom as Sarah Blackwood, "former Special Forces now working on a fracking crew outside of town"; and Kristy Dinsmore as Amy, "a life coach and daughter of the town doctor." (Deadline.com)
GOOD DOCTOR, THE (ABC) - Carly Pope will guest on the show's two-part season premiere as Lily, "a woman whose husband has become sick with symptoms that mirror those of coronavirus. The premiere, which focuses on the effects of COVID-19, will include Lily's increasing frustration at not being able to stand by her husband's side due to safety protocols in place." (Variety.com)
MAID (Netflix) - Billy Burke is the latest addition to the drama as Hank, "the father of Alex (Margaret Qualley) and the ex-husband of Paula (Andie MacDowell), from whom he is very estranged. A contractor whose life and career was hard hit by alcoholism and the recession, Hank has survived by becoming deeply religious and sobering up. Now remarried with twins, he denies any of the darkness in his past." (Deadline.com)
MASKED DANCER, THE (FOX) - The proposed spin-off will reportedly begin filming this weekend at Red Studios in Los Angeles, home to parent series "The Masked Singer," using the same rigorous health and safety protocols. In the format, celebrity contestants will perform unique dances, while covered from head-to-toe in elaborate costumes and face masks, leaving audiences to guess their identities. (Deadline.com)
PRIDE (HBO, New!) - Aziza Barnes has sold a small screen take on Ibi Zoboi's novel to the pay channel, "a Haitian-Dominican coming of age story that explores young love, teenage angst, and gentrification through magical realism." Natasha Rothwell and Alloy Entertainment's Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will also executive produce for Warner Bros. Television. (Deadline.com)
SLAY (The CW, New!) - Julian Johnson has sold a new drama to the netlet about Carson Jones, "a bold, witty teenager with afro puffs, leather boots, seventies cool, and - thanks to her mother's ancient African bloodline - supernatural gifts and the responsibility to use them to protect Virginia's Historic Triangle (one of the most haunted areas in the country) from the forces of darkness." Pam Veasey and Royal Ties Productions' Regina King and Reina King will executive produce for CBS Television Studios with Johnson as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
TRIAGE (ABC) - Michael Ealy has scored a lead role on the medical drama pilot as Nathaniel Price, "a brilliant neurosurgeon who is one of Finley Briar's (Parisa Fitz-Henley) closest friends and colleagues with a profound personal connection." (Deadline.com)
VALLEY OF TEARS (HBO Max, New!) - The streaming service has scored the rights to the much-ballyhooed Israeli series, detailed by WestEnd Films as follows: "Inspired by true events, VALLEY OF TEARS is a ten-part miniseries depicting the Yom Kippur War through the eyes of young combatants. It tells three emotional and highly personal stories of individuals swept away from their loved ones by the ravages of war, three parallel plotlines, intertwined together into one climactic battle." Lior Ashkenazi, Aviv Alush, Lee Biran, Shahar Taboch, Joy Rieger and Ofer Hayoun star in the project, from director Yaron Zilberman and writers Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen. David Betzer, Sharon Harel-Cohen, Maya Amsellem and Moshe Edery are the producers. (Deadline.com)
WILDE THINGS (A.K.A. THE BIG BAD WOLFES) (CBS) - Ken Marino, Milan Carter and Juliet Donenfeld are the latest additions to the Julie Bowen-led multi-camera comedy pilot. Marino will play Joe, "Frankie's (Bowen) friend-with-benefits who is convinced he's going to be the guy who finally will break through Frankie's walls to be something more." Carter then will replace Jeremy D. Howard as Lenny, "Frankie's offbeat assistant - cosmically attuned and sexually attracted to people, not gender, who also happens to be her AA sponsor." And Donenfeld is Quinn, "a sharp and cautiously hopeful 11-year-old with a tough and savvy side that comes from a lifetime of self-protection while moving through the foster-care system." Stephanie Koenig also stars. (Deadline.com)
