U.S. HAS A TOP-SECRET MILITARY CAPABILITY IN IRAQ THAT LOCATES ENEMIES FOR KILLING, SAYS BOB WOODWARD IN HIS FIRST INTERVIEW ABOUT HIS NEW BOOK -- "60 MINUTES"

He Also Says U.S. Has Been Spying on Iraqi PM Nouri Al-Maliki

Bob Woodward reveals the use of a top-secret military capability in Iraq that locates enemies and targets them for killing in his first interview about his latest book on the Bush White House. The interview will be broadcast on 60 MINUTES Sunday, Sept. 7 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

"This is very sensitive and very top secret, but there are secret operational capabilities that have been developed by the military to locate, target, and kill leaders - of Al Qaeda in Iraq, insurgent leaders, renegade militia leaders that is one of the true breakthroughs," Woodward tells Scott Pelley. "If you were an Al-Qaeda leader or part of the insurgency in Iraq, or one of these renegade militias, and you knew about what they were able to do, you'd get your ass out of town."

The Washington Post editor also tells Pelley that the U.S. has been keeping close tabs on Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. "There is significant surveillance of Maliki and as one source told me, 'We know everything he says.' And others I've talked to about that say, 'You can't literally know everything.' But we know a great deal... Some people think that he should know, and that he might know. Others think he's going to be shocked."

Woodward's new book, The War Within, is available Sept. 8 and is published by Simon & Schuster, part of the CBS Corp.
