THREE YEARS AFTER A DOCTOR'S WIFE DIES FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING, HER HUSBAND, A TOP ANESTHESIOLOGIST, IS CHARGED WITH MURDER. DID HE DO IT?

"HOUSE OF SECRETS"

SATURDAY, JUNE 16 (10:00 PM ET/PT)

After a doctor's wife died of carbon monoxide poisoning, it initially looked like an accident. However, as 48 HOURS MYSTERY correspondent Peter Van Sant reports in this updated rebroadcast of "House of Secrets," there was more to the story. Dr. Mark Wangler and his wife Kathy were an integral part of their Lima, Ohio community. He was a top anesthesiologist; she, a devoted mother of two. After three decades of marriage, though, their home life was falling apart. When Kathy died on Sept. 4, 2006 from the toxic gas while sleeping, Mark blamed a faulty water heater. Police were confused because Mark survived. A few months after Kathy died, Mark began dating Esther Erkman, whom he met in church. They were married 14 months later. But, three years after Kathy died, police returned and charged Mark Wangler with killing his wife. Van Sant talked to Mark and Esther for his initial May 2011 report. But did Mark do it, or was it really an accident? He denies it, but Kathy's family is convinced otherwise.
