"20/20" Interviews Actress Who Blows the Chandra Levy Case Open with Secret Recordings

The Report Features Interview with Man Initially Convicted in the Murder and Messages Former Congressman Gary Condit Left Levy When She Was Missing

"Mystery in Rock Creek Park" Airs on "20/20" Saturday, May 20 on ABC

In a story that transfixed the nation, "20/20" interviews actress Babs Proller who blows the Chandra Levy case open with claims that her secretly recorded conversations with prison informant Armando Morales convinced prosecutors to drop the charges against Ingmar Guandique in the death of the Washington, D.C. intern found dead in a park. ABC News Correspondent Deborah Roberts' report also features a recording between Proller and Morales, an interview with Guandique from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility, the voicemail messages former Congressman Gary Condit left Levy in the first few days she was missing, interviews with Levy's parents and Condit's son Chad, an inside look at the investigation with law enforcement and more. "Mystery in Rock Creek Park" airs on "20/20" SATURDAY, MAY 20 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on ABC. (Rebroadcast. ABC OAD: 11/4/16)

It was a mystery that captured America's attention when Levy vanished without a trace in the spring of 2001. After Levy disappeared, Condit was caught in the crosshairs as rumors that they were dating surfaced, which increased the public's interest in the tragedy. A year later Levy's remains were found in Rock Creek Park. Investigators suspected Guandique, an undocumented immigrant, who had recently pled guilty for assaulting two other women in the park. Then Morales came forward claiming Guandique had confessed to the murder. Guandique was convicted and sentenced to 60 years in prison until a new trial was granted years later. In the summer of 2016 prosecutors suddenly dropped the charges against Guandique and released him to an ICE detention facility. Proller claims to have recorded Morales on tape telling her that Guandique never confessed to him.

"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
