"In An Instant: The Woman Who Refused to Die"

When high school junior Melissa Dohme met Robert Burton, she thought she'd met the guy of her dreams. Little did she know, he would try to kill her - more than once.

As Burton began assaulting her one night in 2011, 19-year-old Dohme feared for her life and called 911. After that, Dohme didn't get back together with her abusive boyfriend, but three months later she agreed to meet Burton for "one last hug."

When Dohme stepped forward to hug Burton, she heard the click of his knife and he then began viciously attacking her. A young couple tried to help, but was threatened by Burton. One called 911. By the time the attack ended, Burton had stabbed Melissa 32 times. Her heart stopped four times that night while the trauma team saved her life.

Speaking at a local domestic abuse center months later, Dohme reconnected with one of her rescuers, Cameron Hill, who was sitting in the audience. The pair began dating and as Dohme threw out the first pitch for a Tampa Bay Rays game in 2015, Hill asked her to marry him. They got married in March 2017.

As for Burton, he was captured after buying sleeping pills, stopping at McDonalds and crashing his truck into a convenience store. He was sentenced to life without parole.
