TLC helps six Greensburg, KS families make their new houses into homes with MAKING IT HOME: GREENSBURG

New series hosted by Doug Wilson and Faber Dewar to premiere August 23, 2008

August 4, 2008 Los Angeles, CA TLC today announced the new series MAKING IT HOME: GREENSBURG, premiering on August 23, 2008. Hosted by design expert Doug Wilson (MOVING UP, TRADING SPACES) and carpentry expert Faber Dewar (TRADING SPACES), the series visits six families in Greensburg, Kansas as they rebuild from the tornado that destroyed the town in May 2007.

In each of the six episodes, Doug and Faber will see first hand that giving your neighbors a helping hand is not just a clich, its a way of life, especially in Greensburg. While neighbors in this rural community have always looked out for each other, the storm has brought them even closer, and with hard work and lots of emotional resolve, the town is being re-built. Together, they will tackle home improvement and design projects in each others homes to make them welcoming and unique - and to show the world what can be done when a community works together.

The six families, and their renovation projects, include:

Cannon family: premieres August 23

Lifelong Greensburg residents, the family including 11 year-old Maddie and Josh, 10 - rebuilt in a new part of town and are in moving in. The only space that needs special attention is the basement, which includes their family room, a safe room, and the childrens bedrooms. All art-lovers, the familys goal is to create a comfortable space they can enjoy together.

Fleener family: premieres August 30

Wylan is the single father of Alexsis, 17, and Harrison, 11, who lost his house and didnt have insurance money to rebuild with. He decided to buy an old farmhouse in need of work, both inside and out. His family shares a passion for environmentally friendly causes and would like to make the house as green as possible.

Kern family: premieres September 6

Haley and Peter, with their 2-year-old daughter, moved to the town just a year ago. They lost their house in the tornado, and decided to move into a home that survived the storm, but was in severe disrepair. Peter is handling many of the renovations himself, but needs to fit in the repairs around his full-time job. The couple would like to create a brand-new nursery with the plan to grow their family.

Collins family: premieres September 13

Ruby and Merle Collins have an extraordinary tornado survival story: they passed the storm in their pick up truck, which was lifted several times and dropped by the tornado. Luckily, Ruby & Merle escaped the truck, unharmed. Now, happily living in their new home, theyd like to make their basement more comfortable and accessible for when they need to wait out other tornado warnings.

Headrick family: premieres September 20

Darin and Kathy were scheduled to move into their new home in one week then the tornado hit and took everything but the foundation. After the storm, Darin, the superintendent of the Greensburg School District, dedicated himself to getting a temporary school built in time for the start of the school year. Now theyve decided to rebuild the exact home on the exact spot and the kids of his district and their families want to help him rebuild his home and he in turn wants to build a place where the townspeople can come together.

Brown family: premieres September 27

Marilyn and her husband Robin began rebuilding almost immediately after the storm. Unfortunately, they hired a contractor who took full payment for the work, started construction, but never completed it. Theyve been relying on help from volunteers, and most of the living areas have been completed. As a finishing touch, theyd like to create a home theatre that their daughter and friends can enjoy.

MAKING IT HOME: GREENSBURG is produced by Pilgrim Films & Television. Executive producer is Kathryn Takis.
