Development Update: Thursday, July 10
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

GARY UNMARRIED (CBS) - Promos that recently began on the Eye indicate that the Jay Mohr-led comedy "Project Gary" now features the moniker "Gary Unmarried." Jaime King, Laura Marano, Paula Marshall and Ryan Malgarini also star in the half-hour, which premieres September 24. Ed Yeager created the half-hour and is executive producing alongside Ric Swartzlander.

HBO AT THE TCA - The pay channel has outlined its upcoming programming plans, including its fall premieres and a trio of pilots. Alan Ball's "True Blood" and the fifth season of "Entourage" will both roll out on September 7 to be followed by "Little Britain USA" and "The Life of Times of Tim" starting September 28. Also on tap: a new Chris Rock stand-up special on September 27; the Australian import "Summer Heights High" on November 9; and new seasons of "Big Love," "In Treatment," "Tell Me That You Love Me" and "Flight of the Conchords" sometime in 2009. "Curb Your Enthusiasm" likewise is expected to return for season seven in 2009, although probably late in the year. Meanwhile, as expected, all plans for a "Deadwood" follow-up telefilm have been tabled. And finally on the development front, HBO has given greenlights to Martin Scorsese's drama "Boardwalk Empire," Sarah Jessica Parker's long-in-the-works comedy "Washingtonienne" and "Treme," a new drama from David Simon and Eric Overmyer about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The latter hour will be shot on location in New Orleans.

MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE (TNT) - Scott Bakula is set to star opposite Ray Romano and Andre Braugher in the drama pilot, about three college pals now in their 40s who are grappling with middle age. Bakula will play Terry Elliott, a struggling actor dating a much younger woman. Also signing on are Richard Gant as Owen Sr., the father of Braugher character, and Scott Winant ("Californication") as the pilot's director. He'll work from a script by co-creators/executive producers Romano and Mike Royce. Rory Rosegarten and Cary Hoffman also serve as executive producers.

SIT DOWN, SHUT UP (FOX) - The rift between the show's writers and Sony Pictures Television may be headed for a resolution. The show's staff of 14 walked off the show last month over claims that the studio misled them that they would be covered by the WGA when in actuality its animation division, Adelaide Productions, is a longtime signatory to the IATSE. Sony is said to have offered the writers a more generous package than their original offer on June 23. Exact deal points however weren't specified except that the series would still be covered by the IATSE. It's understood that should a deal not be reached soon - at least with some of the staff - Sony plans to pull the plug on the show.
