LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- NBC has issued a surprise renewal for its freshman comedy "Whitney."
After launching to 6.8 million viewers and a 3.3 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 on Thursday nights, the Whitney Cummings-led half-hour shifted to Wednesdays at 8:00/7:00c in January with its March 28 finale delivering a 1.6 rating/5 share in 18-49 and 4.1 million viewers overall.
[UPDATED! 12:29 PM] In addition, Variety.com reports Betsy Thomas is not expected to return as showrunner next season.
