HITCHCOCK AND THE MAKING OF PSYCHO (A&E)
DEVELOPMENT HISTORY:
7/15/05
STATUS:
previously in development
DESCRIPTION:
(from A&E's press release) This A&E Original Movie will chronicle the chilling true story that inspired Psycho, told alongside a dramatization of director Alfred Hitchcock shooting the movie that would become Hollywood’s most celebrated horror classic. Real-life serial killer Ed Gein was the inspiration behind Psycho’s Norman Bates – and, much later, Silence of the Lambs’ Buffalo Bill as well. Gein was a mild-mannered, seriously disturbed Wisconsin farmer who kept the remains of his domineering mother in a sealed-off room after her death in 1945. His shocking story would be immortalized by Hitchcock in the 1960 movie starring Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins. The movie will intertwine the lives of Hitchcock and Gein, showing not only the making of Psycho, but also how it helped to expose hidden truths behind the idealized American Dream of the 1950s.
