CARNIVAL ROW (Amazon) - Rene Echeverria's small screen take on Travis Beacham's feature spec is heading to pilot at the streaming service. The Legendary Television/Amazon Studios-produced project is "set in the future in a city called the Burgue, which looks a lot like 18th Century London. It is inhabited by humans and other creatures, and a serial killer is on the loose." Gary Ungar and Guillermo del Toro also serve as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
LEGEND OF MASTER LEGEND, THE (Amazon, New!) - Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster have booked a pilot commitment from the company for a half-hour comedy which centers on "Master Legend and his sidekick, the Ace." The Amazon Studios-based effort is based on a Rolling Stone article about real-life superheroes by fellow executive producer Joshuah Bearman. (Deadline.com)
MADIBA (BET) - The cable channel's Laurence Fishburne-led Nelson Mandela mini-series has added Orlando Jones as Oliver Tambo, "president of the African National Congress"; David Harewood as Walter Sisulu, "secretary-general of the African National Congress"; and Michael Nyqvist as Dr. H.F. Verwoerd, "the prime minister of Apartheid-era South Africa from 1958 until his assassination in 1966." (THR.com)
MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL, THE (Amazon, New!) - Amy Sherman-Palladino ("Gilmore Girls") has scored a pilot order from the streaming service for a dramedy about "a 1950s housewife who decides to be one of the first female standup comics." Amazon Studios is producing. (Deadline.com)
MIKA MODEL (Netflix, New!) - Paolo Bacigalupi's short story about "how technology and science will change our lives" is being developing as a series by the streaming service. David Weil is in talks to spearhead the adaptation with 21 Laps Entertainment' Shawn Levy also among the executive producers. No other auspices were given. (Deadline.com)
MOGADISHU, MINNESOTA (A.K.A. THE RECRUITERS) (HBO) - K'naan Warsame's script - "a family drama that grapples with what it means to be American among the Somalis of Minneapolis" - is heading to pilot at the pay channel. Kathryn Bigelow and Carolyn Strauss also serve as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
NCIS: LOS ANGELES (CBS) - Creator Shane Brennan has signed a new two-year overall deal with producer CBS Television Studios. Said pact will see Brennan step down as day-to-day showrunner on the series - but continue as an executive producer to focus on development via his Shane Brennan Productions banner. (Deadline.com)
PATH, THE (Hulu) - James Remar has joined the cast of the show's second season as Kodiak, "a controversial longtime member of the Movement who is called back to the compound amid suspicions of corruption." (Deadline.com) Additionally, Leven Rambin has signed on as Chloe, "an intriguing figure from Eddie's (Aaron Paul) past, whose shared history sparks up a complicated new relationship." (THR.com)
RAY DONOVAN (Showtime) - Raymond J. Barry is the latest face bound for the series as "a high-ranking Russian mobster." (Deadline.com)
SON, THE (AMC) - Pierce Brosnan and Jacob Lofland have both been cast in the upcoming drama, a multi-generational epic telling of the story of America's birth as a superpower through the bloody rise and fall of one Texas family. He'll play Eli McCullough, replacing the previously cast Sam Neill who bowed out of personal reasons. Lofland then will play the younger incarnation of the character. (Deadline.com)
STRANGE NEW THINGS (Amazon) - Writer Matt Charman and director Kevin MacDonald's adaptation of Michel Faber's book is the latest heading to pilot at the streaming service. Said effort, from Amazon Studios and Left Bank Pictures, revolves around Peter Leigh, "an English pastor who embarks on the journey of a lifetime into deep space that takes him light years away from his beloved wife, Bea." Andy Harries will also executive produce with Brian Eno providing "music and soundscape for the series." (Deadline.com)
SUCCESSION (HBO, New!) - Writer Jesse Armstrong; director Adam McKay; and producers Will Ferrell, Frank Rich and Kevin Messick have scored a pilot order for a potential series which "follows the saga of a fictional, American global-media family that is not only rich and powerful but also powerfully dysfunctional. The drama will explore family loyalty, international business, and the perils of power in the 21st century." (Deadline.com)
TROPICANA (Amazon, New!) - Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz have landed a pilot order from Amazon Studios for a new drama "set in pre-revolutionary Cuba in and around the world of The Tropicana nightclub. With the club as a focal point, the series explores the intersection of entertainers, the mob, Batista loyalists, Castro revolutionaries and the American CIA." Andrea Simon also serve as an executive producer. (Deadline.com)
