The Broadcast Film Critics Association Announces the Winners for the 10th Annual Critics' Choice Awards

THE BROADCAST FILM CRITICS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES THE WINNERS FOR THE 10TH ANNUAL CRITICS' CHOICE AWARDS

Burbank, CA January 11, 2005

AWARDS CEREMONY HELD ON MONDAY, JANUARY 10, 2005 AND BROADCAST ON THE WB NETWORK

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced the winners for the 10th Annual Critics' Choice Awards. The 194 members of the BFCA, the largest film critics organization in the United States and Canada, representing television, radio and online critics, selected winners in each of 19 categories. The winners were announced at the Critics¿ Choice Awards gala on Monday, January 10, 2005 at the Wiltern Theatre. The Critics' Choice Awards were created by the BFCA to recognize excellence in cinematic achievement. Eligible films were released in the 2004 calendar year and are selected by written ballots. The accounting firm of White, Zuckerman, Warsavsky, Luna, Wolf & Hunt tallied the balloting.

The WB Network televised the ceremony live and "Will and Grace" star Eric McCormack returned for the second year to host the 10th annual gala. The Critics' Choice Awards is the only major movie awards show televised before Oscar ballots are cast.

Tom Cruise was the inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Career Achievement in Performing Arts Award. This special award acknowledged the three-time Academy Award nominee for his outstanding body of work. Cruise joined an illustrious list of special award recipients at the Critics' Choice Awards ceremonies. Past honorees have included Clint Eastwood, Peter Weir, Denzel Washington, Antwone Fisher, Muhammad Ali and Steven Spielberg, among many others.

"Sideways" was the big winner of the night receiving five Critics' Choice Awards for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Thomas Haden Church, Best Supporting Actress for Virginia Madsen, Best Acting Ensemble, and Best Writer for Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor. "Ray," "The Aviator" and "Finding Neverland" won two awards each with Jamie Foxx walking away with Best Actor honors and the film winning Best Soundtrack. Martin Scorsese won Best Director and Howard Shore won Best Composer for their work on "The Aviator." "Finding Neverland" was awarded Best Family Film (Live Action) and Best Young Actor for Freddie Highmore. Hilary Swank took home Best Actress for "Million Dollar Baby."

Presenters at the gala included: Maria Bello, Gerard Butler, Jim Caviezel, Thomas Haden Church, David Duchovny, Dakota Fanning, Andy Garcia, Lauren Graham, Marcia Gay Harden, Regina King, Christine Lahti, George Lopez, Jon Lovitz, William H. Macy, Virginia Madsen, Michael Moore, Chad Michael Murray, Clive Owen, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tara Reid, Tim Robbins, Emmy Rossum, David Spade, Treat Williams, Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood.
