Boston Legal Is Among Winners of the 65th Annual Peabody Awards

[via press release from ABC]

QUICK TAKE

BOSTON LEGAL IS AMONG WINNERS OF THE 65th ANNUAL PEABODY AWARDS

ABC TVs Boston Legal was among the winners of the 65th Annual Peabody Awards which were announced April 5 by the University of Georgias Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. The winners, chosen by the Peabody board as the best in electronic media for 2005, were named in a ceremony in the Peabody Gallery on the University of Georgia Campus.

The board selected Boston Legal, along with four other entertainment series, because it uses a blue-chip Beantown law firms civil cases as springboards to comment about issues from the death penalty to credit card companies predatory practices to morning-after contraceptives.

This marks the fourth Peabody Award for creator/executive producer David E. Kelley. Previous wins are for Boston Public (2002), The Practice (1998) and Ally McBeal (1998).

The Peabody Board is a 16-member group comprised of television critics, broadcast and cable industry executives and experts in culture and the arts. The Peabody Awards will be presented June 5 at a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. For more information about the Peabody Archive or the Peabody Awards, visit www.peabody.uga.edu.

Led by an Emmy Award-winning cast, Boston Legal tells the professional and personal stories of a group of brilliant but often emotionally challenged attorneys. Fast-paced and darkly comedic, the series confronts social and moral issues, while its characters continually stretch the boundaries of the law.

The series stars James Spader as Alan Shore, Julie Bowen as Denise Bauer, Mark Valley as Brad Chase, Rene Auberjonois as Paul Lewiston, with Candice Bergen as Shirley Schmidt and William Shatner as Denny Crane.

Boston Legal was created by David E. Kelley. Kelley, Bill DElia and Janet Leahy are executive producers. The series is produced by David E. Kelley Productions in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television.
