Friday Night's Fanboy and Chum Chum Debut Bows as Nick's Highest-Rated Premiere Ever with Kids 6-11, 2-11

NEW YORKNov. 10, 2009Nickelodeon's Friday night premieres of SpongeBob SquarePants "Truth or Square" and Fanboy and Chum Chum scored big ratings as the star-studded SpongeBob TV event (Nov. 6, 8 p.m. all times ET/PT) drew 7.7 million total viewers, ranking as basic cable's number-one entertainment show for the week; and Nick's newest series, Fanboy and Chum Chum (Friday, Nov. 6, 9 p.m.), set a new record as Nick's highest-rated series premiere ever with kids 6-11 and 2-11.

SpongeBob "Truth or Square" also ranked as the week's number-one program on all of TV with kids 6-11, tweens and kids 2-11. "Truth or Square" averaged a 12.5/4.4 million K2-11 (+205% over last year), a 14.0/3.0 million K6-11 (+204%) and an 11.4/2.5 million T9-14 (+235%).

The Friday, Nov. 6, debut of Fanboy and Chum Chum (9 p.m.) ranked as basic cable's number-two telecast for the nightonly behind SpongeBob SquarePants "Truth or Square"and drew 5.8 million total viewers and 2.5 million K6-11. The CG-animated series' second episode--which bowed on Saturday morning (Nov. 7, 10:30 a.m.)--grabbed 5.4 million total viewers, second only to SpongeBob.

Fanboy and Chum Chum's Friday debut averaged a 10.4/3.7 million K2-11 (+154%), an 11.9/2.5 million K6-11 (+159%) and an 8.9/1.9 million T9-14 (+134%). On Saturday, it averaged a 9.5/3.4 million K2-11 (+70%), a 10.4/2.2 million K6-11 (+89%) and a 6.9/1.5 million T9-14 (+86%).

Ricky Gervais narrates the special and Cee-Lo Green (Gnarls Barkley) performs a cover of the SpongeBob theme song to an all-new stop-motion opening title sequence.

Fanboy and Chum Chum is a new CG-animated comedy spin-off from the Nicktoons Network anthology series Random! Cartoons. The series centers on a fearless, comic book-loving 11-year-old named Fanboy and his best friend and trusty sidekick, Chum Chum. In every episode, Fanboy and Chum Chum, donning their tights and capes, emerge from the "Fanlair" to find comic adventure wherever they go, embarking on a daily quest to turn an average day into a fantastically fun one.

Nickelodeon, now in its 30th year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, online, recreation, books, magazines and feature films.
