LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- January will once again serve as cable's original programming beachhead as ABC Family, AMC, Sci Fi and USA are all set to roll out new and returning originals during the month.
Here's a complete breakdown of the plans:
-- ABC Family's signature series "Kyle XY" and "Wildfire" are both due back next month. The former kicks off the back half of its second season on Monday, January 14 at 8:00/7:00c. A week later on January 21, "Wildfire" will launch its fourth season at 9:00/8:00c.
-- Over on AMC, the network's latest original series "Breaking Bad" will now debut on Sunday, January 20 at 10:00/9:00c. Bryan Cranston stars as Walter White, a terminally ill high school chemistry teacher who becomes a meth dealer to provide for his family's future.
-- Meanwhile, USA has confirmed both "Monk" and "Psych" will resume their respective seasons on Friday, January 11. Said date comes just five weeks after their holiday specials, which air on December 7.
-- And finally, Sci Fi has bulked up its January offerings to include the winter seasons of "Flash Gordon" (Friday, January 4 at 8:00/7:00c) and "Stargate Atlantis" (Friday, January 4 at 10:00/9:00c with encores of the previous week's episode at 9:00/8:00c) as well as the previously announced "Ghost Hunters International" (Wednesday, January 9 at 9:00/8:00c). Also in the mix is an unspecified newcomer dubbed "Guinea Pig." The half-hour series, which premieres on Tuesday, January 8 at 9:00/8:00c with back-to-back episodes, will lead into the network's "ECW" franchise at 10:00/9:00c. With episode titles like "Less Lethal," "Human Injections," "Sudden Impact" and "G-Force," one can only imagine its contents. Lastly, no less than three original movies will bow during the month - "Beyond Loch Ness" (Saturday, January 5), "Ghost Voyage" (Saturday, January 26) and "Blood Monkey" (Sunday, January 27).
Look for additional premieres to be announced in the coming weeks. As always you can visit our monthly list of premieres and schedule grid for a complete overview of all the upcoming premieres - broadcast and cable.
