[01/29/10 - 01:58 PM] Dinoshark, "Merlin" Among Syfy's Latest Acquisitions By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- Syfy has acquired the broadcast rights to U.K. import "Merlin."
In addition, "Dinoshark" will invade audience's homes in March, as will the return of the network's "Name That Movie" contest.
NBC aired "Merlin's" first season on Sunday nights last summer. Syfy will rebroadcast those 13 installments as part of a day-long marathon on Sunday, March 28 beginning at 10:00 AM ET. Season two then is expected to make its U.S. premiere on Friday, April 2 alongside the return of "Stargate Universe."
Meanwhile on the original movie front, the Roger Corman-produced "Dinoshark" will debut on Saturday, March 13 at 9:00/8:00c. Corman has been behind several of the channel's offerings, including "Supergator" and "Cyclops."
Also due on March 27 is an untitled film whose moniker will be derived from suggestions on the network's web site. Syfy previously opened the floor for its 2006 effort "Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep." Among the most popular submissions: "Two Guys A Girl and a Giant Squid," "Tentacles Eight: Humans Two," "The Squid Stays in the Picture," "Stop or My Squid Will Shoot" and "Killamari." Details about the project will presumably be released in the coming weeks.
