LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

GLEE (FOX) - Cheyenne Jackson ("30 Rock") is set to recur on the show's upcoming second season. He'll play the new coach of New Directions rival Vocal Adrenaline, succeeding Idina Menzel. No other details were given.
HELL ON WHEELS (AMC) - Anson Mount and Dominique McElligott have booked the lead roles on the pilot, a period drama set during the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. He'll play Cullen, "a former slave owner and a Confederate soldier determined to avenge the rape/murder of his beloved wife by tracking and killing the Union soldiers who killed her [who] winds up working on the Nebraska prairie's Hell on Wheels' portion of the transcontinental railroad." She's then set as Lily Bell, "an intelligent woman taking care of her ill husband who is part of the team of surveyors mapping the railroad's course." David Von Ancken is directing the hour, which was penned by Joe and Tony Gayton. Common also stars.
OFF THE MAP (ABC) - Enrique Murciano has been dropped from the midseason drama, about a tiny town in the South American jungle which has one understaffed, under-stocked medical clinic. He played Manny Diaz, a former plastic surgeon who relocates to the tropic clinic, a role which is being written out of the series. Murciano's departure comes on the heels of Rachelle Lefevre joining the cast as a new character.
THE OFFICE (NBC) - The Peacock has confirmed Steve Carell will indeed depart the veteran comedy after the upcoming season. "Not to diminish the departure of Steve, because that will impact the show, but we have tremendous faith in the writers and actors to keep it alive," the network's entertainment president Angela Bromstad told The Associated Press. The door however will be left open for Carell to reprise his role on occasion.
