LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
10 YEARS (New!) - Courteney Cox and David Arquette are developing a new comedy which "explores the ups and downs of relationships across a group of friends, spanning 10 years." Said half-hour, writing auspices for which weren't given, comes from the duo's ABC Studios-based Coquette Productions. (TVLine.com)
BLIND DATES (The CW, New!) - Krista Vernoff ("Grey's Anatomy") is developing a domestic take on the Argentine telenovela of the same name, a "family drama with elements of a legal franchise, whereby the likable yet awkward heroine must find love (and a date), in anticipation of her older and more beautiful sister's wedding." She'll write and executive produce the CBS Television Studios-based hour alongside Raul Mateu of Fluent Media and Dori Media. (Variety.com)
BUILT IN A DAY (ABC, New!) - Mike Larsen ("Real Time With Bill Maher") has booked a period comedy at the Alphabet about "a promising young speechwriter in ancient Rome whose ability to make the local village idiot sound like Caesar himself has landed him a job at the most prestigious PR firm in all of Ancient Rome." Prospect Park's Jeff Kwatinetz, Josh Barry, Paul Frank and Rich Frank are behind the half-hour, which Larsen will presumably write and executive produce. (Deadline.com)
CARTOON MARRIAGE (ABC, New!) - Terri Minsky ("Less Than Perfect") is looking to bring New Yorker cartoonists Michael Maslin and Liza Donnelly's book of the same name to the small screen. Said effort "tells the story of their marriage through their separate perspectives, in cartoon form." The live-action incarnation then will be penned by Minsky with Jennifer Garner and Juliana Janes also executive producing via their Vandalia Films banner for ABC Studios. (Deadline.com)
CYBER CRIMES (FOX, New!) - Carla Kettner ("Bones") has booked a potential hour at the Eye about "a techno-phobe female FBI agent is partnered with a witty and handsome hacktivist to solve violent crimes with a cyber component." She'll write and executive produce the project alongside Prospect Park's Jeff Kwatinetz, Josh Barry, Paul Frank and Rich Frank. (Deadline.com)
FREESTYLE (ABC, New!) - Richard Kramer ("What Goes On") is developing a new drama at the Alphabet "set around the sexy world of one of the nation's preeminent dance centers." Said hour also comes from Prospect Park's Jeff Kwatinetz, Josh Barry, Paul Frank and Rich Frank who will executive produce alongside Kramer. (Deadline.com)
GILF (FX, New!) - "Wilfred" co-creator/star Jason Gann is developing a second comedy at the network, about "an adopted man who, at the urging of his wife, seeks out his biological mother, discovers she's a former porn star, invites her to move in, and forces his family to deal with the unpredictable consequences." The half-hour comes from fellow "Wilfred" executive producers Jeff Kwatinetz, Josh Barry, Paul Frank and Rich Frank of Prospect Park. (Deadline.com)
GIRL BAND (MTV, New!) - Eric Weinberg ("Death Valley") has set up a "mockumentary-style comedy about a semi-famous European girl group as they try to make it big in America" at the cable channel. "Death Valley" co-star Caity Lotz will also serve as a producer on the project, which comes from Prospect Park and its principals Jeff Kwatinetz, Josh Barry, Paul Frank and Rich Frank. (Deadline.com)
JEKYLL & HYDE (ABC, New!) - Feature writer Matt Lopez ("The Sorcerer's Apprentice") will tackle Robert Louis Stevenson's split-personality tale in a potential drama for the Alphabet about "a female criminal psychologist in San Francisco who is drawn into the mysterious world of a brilliant but inhibited scientist and his volatile alter ego." Mark Gordon is also behind the hour, which he'll executive produce alongside Lopez for his ABC Studios-based banner. The news marks the second such effort at ABC: Sheldon Turner booked "Hyde," about "an ER doctor whose id manifests itself as a different person when he goes to sleep as a result of an experiential medical treatment," at the network last month. (Deadline.com)
STATE OF GEORGIA (ABC Family) - The cable channel has reportedly pulled the plug on the Raven-Symoné-led comedy. The newcomer averaged a very modest 723,000 viewers over the course of its 12-episode run, including a 0.3 rating among adults 18-49. ABC Family previously renewed its lead-in "Melissa & Joey," which averaged 1.062 million viewers and a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating this summer. (Deadline.com)
VICE TV (HBO, New!) - Vice Media is reportedly developing a newsmagazine at the pay channel billed as "'60 Minutes' for young people." Said effort is being executive produced by Bill Maher and presumably the company's CEO and co-founder Shane Smith. No other details were given. (THR.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Romany Malco will recur as a pro bono lawyer who is renting space at Lockhart Gardner on "The Good Wife" (TVLine.com); "Make It or Break It's" Nicole Gale Anderson will turn on up The CW's "Ringer" as an uppity, upper-east side friend of Zoey Deutch's Juliet's (TVLine.com); Fred Savage will play himself on "Happy Endings," an episode which he'll also direct (EW.com); Michael Nouri is set to guest star on "House" as a corporate bigwig who suffers a sudden, strange neurological episode (TVLine.com); Eric Stonestreet is bound for a November episode of FX's "American Horror Story" as a patient of Dr. Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott) who has a fear of urban legends (EW.com); Frederick Weller has booked a three-episode arc on "Blue Bloods" as a charismatic art curator/suspected criminal who begins dating Bridget Moynahan's Erin (EW.com); plus D.J. Pierce, better known as Shangela from "RuPaul's Drag Race," will guest on the November 3 episode of "Community" (EW.com).
