'Children of Dune' DVD Unearthed in May

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Artisan Entertainment will release the Sci Fi Channel's upcoming six-hour mini-series "Children of Dune" on DVD May 20.

The two month window between its broadcast and DVD premieres is substantially less than the previous "Frank Herbert's Dune" mini-series. Original aired in December 2000, Artisan released a "bare-bones" two-disc edition of the film 10 months later. They then went on to release a three-disc "Director's Cut" this past June.

The May 20 release of "Children of Dune" looks to be along the lines of the first release of "Frank Herbert's Dune." The two-disc set will feature anamorphic widescreen video and Dolby Digital audio however specifics beyond that (such as any extras) were not available.

"Children of Dune" premieres March 16-18 (all at 9:00/8:00c) on Sci Fi Channel.
