20th Century FOX Firms Up DVD Slate

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- After several weeks of questions about its upcoming TV-related DVD slate, 20th Century Fox has given firm street dates for several of its 2003 releases. Several retailers such as Amazon.com had given out release dates in the past month or so, some of which proved to be incorrect.

Here's a rundown of what to expect in the coming months (all full screen 4:3 transfers and Dolby 2.0 surround tracks unless noted):

-- "Futurama: Volume 2" (August 12, four discs, MSRP $49.95) includes all 19 episodes produced for the series' second season (three of which actually ended up airing during its third season). Extras include audio commentary over each episode, 15 deleted scenes, animatics for the episode "Why Must I Be a Crustacean In Love?," seven easter eggs, a guide to the alient alphabet used in the series, a stills gallery, and a trailer for the upcoming "Futurama" video game.

-- "N.Y.P.D. Blue: The Complete Second Season" (August 19, six discs, MSRP $59.95) features all 22 second season episodes of the drama. Extras include audio commentaries on six episodes ("Cop Suey," "Simone Says," "Vishy-Vashy," "Bombs Away," "Boxer Rebellion" and "ADA Sipowicz"), three featurettes ("Season Two: A Season of Change," "Wedding Bell Blues," "The Music of Mike Post") and three script to screen comparisons ("Sipowicz Meets Simone," "Sylvia Meets Simone" and "Simone and Sipowicz Bond").

-- "Angel: The Complete Second Season" (September 2, six discs, MSRP $59.95) also features all 22 second season episodes of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spin-off. Extras include two commentaries ("Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been" and "Over The Rainbow"), four featurettes ("Making Up The Monsters," "Inside The Agency," "Season 2 Overview" and "Stunts"), two scripts ("Darla" and "Disharmony"), a stills gallery and blueprints used in the series.

-- "Home Alone 4" (September 2, one double-sided disc, $19.95) includes both the full screen and widescreen transfers of the TV sequel that aired on ABC last year (each version on one side) with English 5.1 and 2.0 Dolby surround tracks. Extras include trailers for the previous three "Home Alone" movies.

-- "Family Guy: Volume 2" (September 9, three discs, MSRP $49.95) includes the 22 remaining episodes of the animated series, including the previously unaired "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein." Extras include audio commentary over five episodes ("Mr. Griffin Goes to Washington," "Death Lives," "Mr. Saturday Night," "Ready, Willing and Disabled" and "Brian Wallows"), the original pilot presentation, 15 minutes of animatics and a series overview.

20th Century Fox is also expected to announce firm dates for "24: The Complete Second Season," "Dark Angel: The Complete Second Season," "Lost in Space: The Complete First Season," "The X-Files: The Complete Eighth Season," "King of the Hill: Volume 2" and "M*A*S*H: The Complete Fifth Season" in the coming weeks. Also despite being in the works for late 2003 (click here for more information), it appears "Millennium: The Complete First Season" has been delayed indefinitely.
