[06/25/03 - 12:00 AM] 'Sex' Helps 'Wire,' 'Greenlight' By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)
CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- While Sunday's season premiere of "Sex and the City" didn't set any records, its 7.3 million viewers helped make lead-outs "The Wire" and "Project Greenlight" hit their highest numbers to date.
"Sex's" strong performance pumped an original episode of "The Wire" at 9:30/8:30c to 4.3 million viewers, its largest audience ever. That push helped the one-hour season premiere of "Project Greenlight" be seen by 3.5 million viewers. That's over a million more than watched "Greenlight's" first season on average.
As for "Sex and the City," the show's sixth season bow was down slightly from last season's premiere (7.9 million viewers) but nevertheless was the fourth highest-rated episode in the show's history. Overall "Sex" averaged 7 million viewers during last year's shortened season.
