CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Universal's "Crossing Over With John Edward" and Buena Vista's "The Wayne Brady Show" both got pink slips on Thursday as their respective distributors announced neither show will return for the 2004-05 season.
Both series however will finish out the 2003-04 season, with "Brady" continuing to produce fresh installments through May sweeps. It's not clear though if "Edward," which halted production on Monday, will resume work on new episodes. At the very least, encores from its three-year run will be offered in syndication and on the Sci Fi Channel for the remainder of its broadcast season.
To date this season, "Edward" has averaged a paltry 0.9 rating in syndication, down 31% in year-to-year comparisons. "Brady," which took home Emmys for best daytime talk show and best daytime talk show host last year, is reportedly set to be replaced by fellow Buena Vista talk show "The Tony Danza Show" on ABC owned-and-operated stations come fall 2004.
