CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- As expected, FOX handed out a pink slip to its freshman comedy "A Minute With Stan Hooper" this week. The news comes as little surprise as the series has been off the network's schedule for over a month. "American Idol's" results show will fill the Wednesday, 8:30/7:30c half-hour beginning next week as previously announced.
For its four Wednesday airings, "Hooper" averaged just 5.7 million viewers, holding onto a less than stellar 69.56% of lead-in "That '70s Show." "Hooper" was also off 27% in year-to-year comparions when "Cedric the Entertainer Presents" aired in the Wednesday, 8:30/7:30c time slot and retained 96.32% of lead-in "The Bernie Mac Show."
A last ditch effort to try the series out on Friday night last month also fared poorly, averging just 3.9 million viewers for two back-to-back episodes. Said broadcast was FOX's worst audience in the Friday, 9:00/8:00c hour this season aside from an encore of "Skin" (3.8 million on 10/24/03).
13 episodes of "Hooper" were produced, leaving seven installments on the shelf. Norm Macdonald, Barry Kemp and Lori Jo Hoekstra were the executive producers of the series which came from Paramount Network Television.
