LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13, 2005 - Production is set to begin in Los Angeles this spring on the 14-episode first season of the new HBO half-hour comedy series THE COMEBACK, starring Lisa Kudrow ("Friends"), it was announced today by Carolyn Strauss, president, HBO Entertainment. Created and executive produced by Michael Patrick King (HBO's "Sex and the City") and Kudrow, and executive produced by John Melfi ("Sex and the City") and Dan Bucatinsky ("All Over the Guy"), THE COMEBACK will launch this summer, with episodes debuting back-to-back with new episodes of the hit comedy series "Entourage," returning for its second season.

"Lisa Kudrow is one of the most gifted comic actresses in TV and movies today, and we're delighted to welcome her to the HBO family," said Strauss. "Her partnership with Michael Patrick King, who was a driving force behind 'Sex and the City' is sure to produce another great comedy series for our subscribers."

Says King, "I'm thrilled to be launching another project with HBO - my creative home, and with Lisa Kudrow - every comic writer's dream partner."

"Only Michael Patrick King can execute this subtle brand of brutal comedy and keep it so full of compassion," adds Kudrow, "and only HBO would let us do it."

Kudrow stars as Valerie Cherish, a former "B-list" sitcom star so desperate for the spotlight that she agrees to star in a reality television show called "The Comeback," with cameras following her every move as she lands a part on a new network sitcom. Totally scripted, THE COMEBACK explores the madness of television, a Beverly Hills lifestyle, and the bravery of a comic-tragic 40-year-old woman who is slowly sinking.

Other cast regulars on THE COMBACK include: Robert Michael Morris (as Mickey), Damian Young (Mark), Laura Silverman (Jane), Malin Akerman (Juna), Robert Bagnell (Tom) and Lance Barber (Pauly G).

Along with the hit comedy series "Friends," for which she won an Emmy(r), as well as receiving five other nominations, Lisa Kudrow's credits include the feature films "Analyze This," "Clockwatchers," "The Opposite of Sex," "Wonderland" and "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion." Her new film, "Happy Endings," will open the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. King has received two Emmys(r) and three Golden Globes for his work on "Sex and the City." THE COMBACK is created by Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow; executive produced by Michael Patrick King, Lisa Kudrow, John Melfi and Dan Bucatinsky; producer, Denis Biggs; casting, Liberman/Patton Casting.
