FIRST VIEWER VOTE ON "SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE" TOPS "AMERICAN IDOL" SEASON ONE VOTING PREMIERE

Over 3 Million Votes Cast in Dance Competition

The first performance show of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE on Wednesday, Aug. 17, logged a record number of telephone votes for a voting premiere. Over 3 million votes were cast, topping the call record of the first AMERICAN IDOL, and making this the highest number of votes for the first episode of any competition series in TV history. The 16 dance finalists performed for America and the bottom six contestants, as chosen by the show's panel of judges, were revealed: Michelle Brooke, Artem Chigvinsev, Sandra Colton, Allan Frias, Jonnis and Snow Urbin. The two contestants with the fewest viewer votes will be eliminated on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Wednesday, Aug. 24 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

America's vote will be revealed during a 30-minute results show, to be followed by 90 minutes of performances by the 14 remaining finalists in a two-hour evening of dance. The panel of choreographer/judges (Nigel Lythgoe, Brian Friedman, Mary Murphy and Dan Karaty) will choose the bottom three couples, who will battle it out as individuals in a timed freestyle. At the completion of the show, the phone lines will open and voters again will have the opportunity to cast their votes for their favorite contestants.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE was created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe and comes from 19 TV Ltd. and dick clark productions. It is executive-produced by Simon Fuller, Nigel Lythgoe and Allen Shapiro.
