Secretary Albright Makes Her Series Television Debut in A Cameo Appearance Airing October 25

Continuing its tradition of spotlighting unusual guest stars, The WB's acclaimed comedy, GILMORE GIRLS, will feature an appearance by former United States Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in an episode airing Tuesday, October 25 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET).

Secretary Albright filmed her scene on September 30 with actress Alexis Bledel who portrays Rory Gilmore on the series. The episode, entitled Twenty-One Is the Loneliest Number, revolves around the ongoing estrangement between Rory and her mother, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham). Last season, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Norman Mailer appeared as himself in the episode Norman Mailer, I¿m Pregnant! Previously, singer/songwriter Carole King appeared in two episodes as the owner of the town's music store.

I am a big fan of Gilmore Girls and I had a great time, said Secretary Albright. It was an opportunity to do something different for a quick minute, and I learned how hard it is to memorize those lines.

GILMORE GIRLS Executive Producer Amy Sherman-Palladino describes the experience of working with Secretary Albright this way: You know, late at night, when you're sitting in a dark room writing for the five-billionth hour in a row, and you're depressed, you look bad, and your butt is now chair-shaped, you think what the hell am I doing all this work for? And then you get to meet Madeleine Albright. If you think she's seems brilliant and sassy strutting around the Middle East, you should try talking to her in person. We are very honored, very lucky, and soooo not worthy.

The appearance on GILMORE GIRLS marks the first time Secretary Albright has appeared in a television series. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Albright became a U.S. citizen in 1957 and attended Wellesley College where she studied Political Science. She served as Chief Legislative Assistant to Senator Edwin Muskie from 1976-78 and became a staff member on the National Security Council in 1978. She co-founded the Center for National Policy in 1981 and became a United States Ambassador to the United Nations in 1992. President Clinton appointed her Secretary of State in 1996.

GILMORE GIRLS was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (Roseanne), who serves as executive producer with Daniel Palladino (Family Guy), for Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions and Hofflund/Polone in association with Warner Bros. Television Production Inc. Also credited as an executive producer is Gavin Polone (Stir of Echoes, Drop Dead Gorgeous).
