AMC Bids Bon Voyage to the Remake With the Original "The Poseidon Adventure"

NEW YORK, May 5, 2006 - Still seaworthy after 30 years, AMC offers their TV audience of movie lovers the opportunity to relive the terror of the original disaster movie THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, the day before the remake hits theatres. Starring a virtual who's who in Hollywood, the 1972 film featured the multi-talented and memorable ensemble cast of Gene Hackman, the two-time Academy Award�-winning actor, one of the most honored, respected and versatile of his generation; Ernest Borgnine; Red Buttons; Carol Lynley; Shelley Winters; Roddy McDowall; Stella Stevens and Jack Albertson, directed by British filmmaker Ronald Neame. THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE airs Thursday, May 11 at 8 pm ET/PT.

In the film, the SS Poseidon, a luxury cruise ship on its way to being dismantled, is capsized by a giant tidal wave as passengers ring in the New Year. In the wake of the gigantic wave that crashes through the grand ballroom, the ship remains inverted. Ten motley survivors - an elderly couple, a detective and his ex-prostitute wife, two siblings, a clothier, a waiter and a singer -- led by a priest, are pushed to the limit by confronting multiple life-or-death obstacles in a tireless effort to survive. The classic film generated a slew of disaster films in the 1970s, an Oscar� for Best Song "The Morning After," and remains one of the best among disaster films with nail-biting suspense and large-scale special effects so memorable, they survive the test of time.
