The Eighth Season Premiere of "Csi" Is the Number One Show of the Week

In a week of highly promoted premieres, additional hours of "Dancing with the Stars" and NBC's "Heroes" stunt, CBS remained the Number One network on Thursday, the most important night of the week, as the eighth season premiere of CSI delivered more than 25 million viewers and was the Number One show of the week WITHOUT A TRACE returned to the night with a time period victory in all key measures, and SURVIVOR: CHINA continued to lead its competitors, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Sept. 30, week one of the 2007-2008 television season.

CBS: 22 hours

NBC*: 20 � hours

ABC: 22 hours

FOX: 15 hours

*NBC's weekly averages include only 20.5 hours of programming due to the network combining two broadcasts of "Heroes," which removed one hour of Saturday prime from their premiere week average and their weekly exclusion of the first 30 minutes of "Football Night in America."

For the week in viewers, CBS (11.82m) just barely trailed ABC (11.90m) and placed ahead of NBC* (9.93m) and FOX (6.93m).

For the week in key demographics, CBS was second in adults 25-54 (4.4/11) and averaged a 3.4/10 in adults 18-49.

For the week in households, CBS (7.5/13) was -5% behind ABC (7.9/13) and was +21% ahead of NBC* (6.2/10) and +74% over FOX (4.3/07).

CBS's Weekly Highlights:

? THE BIG BANG THEORY (P) (6.0/09, 9.52m) was second in households, tied for second in adults 25-54 (4.4/10, with NBC) and posted a 3.7/09 in adults 18-49. THE BIG BANG THEORY built on its HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER lead-in by +15% in households, +13% in adults 25-54, +12% in adults 18-49, +11% in adults 18-34 (3.1/08 from 2.8/09) and added +1.40m viewers.

? TWO AND A HALF MEN (P) (8.5/12, 13.58m) posted a 6.0/13 in adults 25-54 and 4.8/11 in adults 18-49 and was the week's top sitcom in both viewers and adults 25-54.

? RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (P) was second in households (7.8/12), viewers (12.23m), adults 25-54 (5.6/12) and adults 18-49 (4.5/10). RULES OF ENGAGEMENT retained 93% of its TWO AND A HALF MEN's lead-in among adults 25-54, 94% of both adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 (2.9/07 from 3.1/08) and 90% among all viewers.

? CSI: MIAMI (P) was first in households (10.0/16), viewers (15.08m), adults 25-54 (5.8/14), adults 18-49 (4.6/12) and adults 18-34 (3.4/09) with its sixth season premiere.

? NCIS (P) was second in households (8.8/14), viewers (13.89m) and adults 25-54 (4.5/11), behind ABC's "Dancing with the Stars".

? CANE (P) was second in its 10PM time period in households (7.5/13), viewers (11.21m), adults 25-54 (4.0/10) and adults 18-49 (3.0/08). CANE posted the largest audience of any series premiere in this time period since "Judging Amy" in 1999 among viewers. CANE improved on its THE UNIT lead-in by +12% in households, +3% in adults 25-54, +7% in adults 18-49 and added +510,000 viewers.

? KID NATION (P) (4.8/08, 7.62m) was first in children 6-11 (2.1/08), second in adults 18-49 (2.8/08), adults 18-34 (2.6/08), teens 12-17 (2.1/08) and children 2-11 (1.6/06). Compared to the first episode last week, KID NATION was up +4% in adults 18-34 (from 2.5/08).

? CSI: NY (P) won its time period in households (8.1/13), viewers (12.72m), second in adults 25-54 (4.6/11) and adults 18-49 (3.7/10) - both topping ABC's premiere of "Dirty Sexy Money".

-- CBS was first Thursday in households (11.4/18), viewers (18.73m), adults 25-54 (7.2/17) and adults 18-49 (5.9/15). CBS won every half-hour in households, viewers and adults 25-54.

? SURVIVOR: CHINA (P) was first in households (8.3/14), viewers (14.15m), adults 25-54 (5.7/15) and adults 18-49 (4.6/13). SURVIVOR topped "Ugly Betty" (P) by +14% in households (vs. 7.3/12), +27% in adults 25-54 (vs. 4.5/12), +18% in adults 18-49 (vs. 3.9/11) and by +2.99m viewers (vs. 11.16m, +27%). SURVIVOR topped the hour-long premiere of "My Name is Earl" by +57% in households (vs. 5.3/09), +39% in adults 25-54 (vs. 4.1/11), +21% in adults 18-49 (vs. 3.8/11) and by +5.49m (vs. 8.66m, +63%).

? CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (P) (9:00-10:01PM) with its season eight premiere, was first in households (14.9/23), viewers (25.22m), adults 25-54 (9.9/22) and second in adults 18-49 (8.2/19). This is CSI's largest margin of victory over a first run episode of "Grey's Anatomy" in households (+1.7 rtg pts), viewers (+4.29m), and adults 25-54 (+0.6 rtg pt) and the closest finish in adults 18-49 (-0.6 rtg pt) to date. Compared to the season seven premiere last year (on 9/21/06), CSI was up +9% in households, +4% in adults 25-54 and +6% in adults 18-49.

? WITHOUT A TRACE (P) (10:01-11:00PM) won its time period in households (10.9/18), viewers (16.73m), adults 25-54 (6.1/15) and adults 18-49 (4.8/13). Compared to time period premiere last year (SHARK on 9/21/06), WITHOUT A TRACE was up +12% in households, +7% in adults 25-54 and +15% in adults 18-49.

? GHOST WHISPERER (P) was first in households (5.8/11), viewers (8.72m), adults 25-54 (3.3/11), adults 18-49 (2.4/09) and adults 18-34 (1.5/06) with its season premiere.

? MOONLIGHT (P) was first with its series premiere in adults 25-54 (3.3/10), adults 18-49 (2.5/08), adults 18-34 (1.7/06), second in both households (5.7/10, -0.2 behind NBC) and viewers (8.54m). MOONLIGHT improved on its GHOST WHISPERER lead-in by +4% in adults 18-49, +13% in adults 18-34 and maintained GHOST WHISPERER's adults 25-54 delivery.

? NUMB3RS (P) was first in its time period in adults 25-54 (3.7/11), adults 18-34 (1.7/06), tied for first in both households (6.1/11, with NBC), adults 18-49 (2.6/08, with NBC) and second in viewers (9.38m, -0.01m behind NBC).

? 60 MINUTES (7:30-9:00 PM) was first in households (8.5/14) and viewers (12.82m). Compared to last week's season premiere, 60 MINUTES was up +12% in households (from 7.6/13), +31% in adults 25-54 (3.8/10 from 2.9/08), +27% in adults 18-49 (2.8/08 from 2.2/07) and added +1.45m viewers (from 11.37m, +13%).

? COLD CASE was up +6% in households (8.7/13 from 8.2/12), +5% in adults 25-54 (4.5/10 from 4.3/09), +10% in adults 18-49 (3.4/08 from 3.1/07) and added +960,000 viewers (13.71m from 12.75m, +8%) compared to last week's season premiere.
