NEW YORK, May 29 -- The Tony Award-winning productions "Rent" and "The Lion King" will make rare encore performances on THE 62ND ANNUAL TONY(R) AWARDS
Most anticipated evening in American theater, to be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York, Sunday, June 15 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET; delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network. The original principal cast members of Rent are scheduled to appear alongside the current Broadway cast to celebrate the show's run, which comes to an end on Sept. 7. The current cast of The Lion King will be doing a special performance to commemorate the show's 10-year anniversary on Broadway.
THE 62ND ANNUAL TONY� AWARDS, presented by Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing, have been broadcast on CBS since 1978. The Tonys were founded in 1947 as a memorial to Antoinette ("Tony") Perry, the American Theatre Wing's World War II chairperson.
Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment return as executive producers. Weiss, who won an Emmy Award for the 2005 broadcast, will also serve as director for the eighth consecutive year. Elizabeth Ireland McCann returns as managing producer and Joey Parnes will serve as coordinating producer for Tony Award Productions.
