I AM CHARLOTTE SIMMONS (HBO, New!) - Tom Wolfe's 2004 novel of the same name is being eyed as a potential drama series at the cable channel. Tina Brown and Ostar Productions' Bill Haber are behind the hour, which is still in the early stages of development. Wolfe's book tells the story of a brilliant freshman from a poor family in the rural South who earns a full scholarship to Dupont U., where she experiences a social and sexual awakening. Brown, who has a development deal with the network, and Haber are now looking for a writer to pen the "Charlotte" pilot. Prior to HBO, Trilogy Entertainment Group and Essential Entertainment tried to develop "Charlotte" as a feature film with Liz Friedlander directing from a script by Trilogy partner John Watson.
