Development Update: Tuesday, October 28
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

BROKE FRIENDS (FOX, New!)/MY MOM IS HOT (ABC, New!) - Luke Greenfield ("Aliens in America") has booked a pair of projects at the broadcast networks via ABC Studios, where his overall deal is based. At sibling ABC, there's "My Mom Is Hot," a semi-autobiographical comedy about a man whose newly divorced mother re-enters the dating scene. Duncan Birmingham ("Swingles") has been tapped to pen the single-camera half-hour with Greenfield attached to direct. The pair will also executive produce alongside Marsh McCall and Beth Greenfield, Luke's mother. Over at FOX then there's "Broke Friends," which centers on an innocent Midwestern kid who relocates to New York, where he moves in with two scam artists. Patrick Walsh and Sonny Lee ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") are writing the half-hour with Greenfield again set to direct and executive produce should it move forward.

COURTROOM K (FOX) - Megan Dodds has inked a talent holding deal with the network and 20th Century Fox Television. The pact stems from her work on the drama pilot "Courtroom K." Dodds is best known for her stints on U.K. entries "Not Going Out" and "MI-5."

MELROSE PLACE (The CW, New!) - The netlet and CBS Paramount Network Television are looking to dust off Aaron Spelling's other signature 1990s soap. The news comes as not much a surprise following the successful relaunch of "90210" this fall. "90210" co-star Rob Estes was one of many actors to rise to prominence thanks to the series, including Courtney Thorne-Smith, Grant Show, Marcia Cross and Doug Savant. The new "Melrose" however is still in the early stages as no writers or producers are currently attached.

PARTY MONSTERS: CABO (E!, New!) - 3 Ball Productions and Bischoff-Hervey Entertainment are set to team for a new eight-episode reality series in which nine aspiring party planners compete to throw the biggest celebrity bashes at the Mexican Riviera's exclusive LG Villa oceanfront resort. The hourlong project, due on Tuesday, December 2 at 10:00/9:00c (with a special sneak preview on Sunday, November 30), will be hosted by Michele Merkin with Brian Worely as "inhouse expert." Each week the contestants will be tasked with assisting celebrities - including P. Diddy, Carmen Electra, Brody Jenner and Lil Jon - throw a unique bash in 24 hours with the ultimate winner landing a celebrity event-planner position at LG. JD Roth, Jason Hervey and Adam Greener are the executive producers with Converge Global serving as a consultant.
