THE STING'S THE THING ON FOX REALITY CHANNEL'S ORIGINAL "SMILE... YOU'RE UNDER ARREST!"

Arresting new show captures criminals in a whole new way!

LOS ANGELES, CA How do you bring some of America's most elusive criminals to justice? Audiences will get hilarious answers to that question on the new Fox Reality Channel original series "Smile, You're Under Arrest!" premiering Saturday, December 27, at 7pET/4pPT. The only all-reality, all-the-time cable and satellite network brings a three-part series, featuring real-life sting operations that combine criminal justice with elaborate improvisational scenarios

In this innovative reality show, a talented team of comic actors set up elaborate scenarios to lure wanted felons with outstanding warrants ranging from DUI's to drug charges out of hiding. These sting operations include opportunities for felons to work as an extra on a movie set and as a model in a fashion shoot, among others. Once the trap is set and the actors have had their fun with the unsuspecting criminals, police officers arrest and haul them off to jail.

"Since the early days of television, shows like Candid Camera' and more recently Punk'd' have let America laugh at elaborately staged pranks and other gotcha' moments," said Bob Boden, SVP Production, Programming and Development, Fox Reality Channel. "'Smile... You're Under Arrest!' follows in the tradition of these popular shows. However, it is the first to present these never-before-seen tactics that have been used by law enforcement agencies for years to capture wanted criminals."

All of the cases featured in "Smile... You're Under Arrest!" involve the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department outside of Phoenix, AZ under the command of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is known as "The Toughest Sheriff in America." He has a reputation for unusual law enforcement tactics such as reinstituting chain gangs, housing prisoners in a desert "tent city" and forcing them to wear pink underwear. Arpaio believes that these stings provide a unique service to his community.

"Because we give higher priority to capturing murderers, robbers and other violent offenders, we don't always have the resources to track down criminals with outstanding warrants for drug and alcohol-related cases," said Arpaio. "Employing the surprise sting operations featured in Smile... You're Under Arrest!' enabled us to capture multiple criminals all at once, with a lower cost to taxpayers. It also demonstrated that criminals are usually not the smartest people."

"Smile... You're Under Arrest!" is produced by Scott Satin, creator of such successful shows as "Most Outrageous Moments" for NBC and "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?" for Sci-Fi Channel.
