NBC to Stay in "Southland"

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- NBC has renewed its freshman drama "Southland" for a second season of 13 episodes.

The news comes as the Peacock preps for its "infront" presentation on Monday in New York City. It's understood the network will announce the bulk of its 2009-10 pick-ups on said date.

"Southland" had been widely expected to make the cut despite the network's limited real estate options next season due to the addition of "The Jay Leno Show."

It's not clear if the series will return in the fall or be held until midseason. While most of its roster will be unveiled next week, NBC's actual schedule won't be finalized until the traditional "upfront" week (May 18-21).
