24 (FOX) - Mykelti Williamson ("Kidnapped") has joined the cast of the show's eighth season. He's on board as Brian Hastings, "the MBA-type head of CTU New York who has a razor-sharp intellect." Production is underway on the new season, due in January.
CRASH COURSE (ABC) - The Alphabet has ordered seven episodes of the reality series, in which couples undertake extreme driving challenges. Orlando Jones and Dan Cortese are co-hosting the hourlong series, which is being likened to the network's popular "Wipeout" franchise. A. Smith & Co.'s Arthur Smith and Kent Weed are behind the project, each episode of which features five couples - siblings, spouses, best friends, etc. - as they undertake four challenges - from driving on two wheels to navigating intense weather conditions - with one couple being eliminated after each round. The final two pairs then face off in the Crash Course, a large obstacle track. Production is set to begin shortly in Michigan for an August premiere.
MERCY (NBC) - Creator Elizabeth Heldens has reupped her overall deal with producer Universal Media Studios. The new two-hour pact, valued in the seven-figure range, covers her services as showrunner on the freshman drama as well as any development during said period. Gretchen Berg, Aaron Harberts, Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun also serve as executive producers on the series, which rolls out at midseason.
