By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

24 (FOX) - Bashar Rahal ("War, Inc.") has landed a role on the show's upcoming eighth season, due in January. He'll play "a general from the Islamic Republic of Kamistan who is involved in a conspiracy against President Hassan (Anil Kapoor)." No other details about his arc were given.

ICONOCLASTS (Sundance) - The cable channel has reupped the series, in which two disparate individuals in far-ranging fields are paired together, for a fifth season. Six new episodes are set to roll out in 2010 and casting is underway. Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky of Radical Media are the executive producers.

IN PLAIN SIGHT (USA) - The network has commissioned a third season of the series, which stars Mary McCormack as a marshal for the Federal Witness Protection Program. The pickup comes on the heels of last week's renewals of "Burn Notice" and "Royal Pains." 16 new episodes are due sometime next year, its largest season total to date. Executive producers David Maples and Paul Stupin however won't be back on a full time basis. A new showrunner is expected to be named shortly. As for fellow Sunday entry "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," the veteran drama is also expected to return.

THE REDNECKS & ROMEOS (FOX, New!) - "That '70s Show" alums Mark Brazill and Tom Werner are reteaming for a potential new multi-camera comedy at the network. The project, which has a cast-contingent pilot order, revolves around "a group of working-class teenage friends growing up in a suburb outside Buffalo, New York." The show itself then will center on the Shea family, "who are trying to make their way after the father has gone bankrupt and has lost his car dealership and the family home." Brazill, who penned the pilot on spec, is executive producing alongside Werner and his Good Humor Television partner Mike Clements for Warner Bros. Television.

UGLY BETTY (ABC) - Grant Bowler is set to reprise his role as Wilhelmina's crooked ex, Connor, Entertainment Weekly reports. The character was last seen "fleeing town after Betty discovered that he had embezzled millions from Meade Publications." The multi-episode arc will kick off this fall.

UNTITLED TOM ARNOLD PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Actor/writer Tom Arnold has inked a blind script deal with the Peacock and Universal Media Studios to pen a new comedy for the duo. He'll also executive produce the half-hour via his 2 Dog Limit banner and could potentially star. Separately, Arnold is set to appear in a multi-episode arc on the second season of FX's "Sons of Anarchy," which returns next month. No specifics about his role were given.
