THE BOOTHS (Showtime) - Oscar-nominee Ron Nyswaner ("Philadelphia") has been tapped to pen the long-in-the-works drama, about the life of Abraham Lincoln's assassin John Wilkes Booth. The project, originally announced back in September of 2008, comes from executive producer Kevin Bacon. Said effort would follow Confederate Booth and his brothers, Edwin and Junius Brutus Jr., in the years leading up to the April 14, 1865 assassination of Lincoln at Ford's Theatre.

GOSSIP GIRL (The CW) - French actress/model Roxane Mesquida ("Kaboom") has scored a role on the upcoming season of the netlet's soap. She'll play the meddling sister of Blair's fiancee, Prince Louis, who's threatening to derail her impending royal nuptials.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (CBS) - Creator Tom Hertz has inked a three-year overall deal with producer Sony Pictures Television. The pact, financial details of which weren't released, covers his duties on the veteran comedy, which moves to Saturday nights this fall. He'll also develop new series projects for the studio. Meanwhile, Sony has cleared the show's off-network run on stations covering 75% of the country for a fall 2012 launch.
