NEW YORK, NY (December 5, 2011) - Last night, MTV2 brought together all-star talent from the worlds of music, TV and film to highlight the best music and moments in hip-hop from the past year during the first-ever "Sucker Free Awards." Hosted by MTV's Sway Calloway, the "Sucker Free Awards" broadcasted from the heart of the action at LIV Fontainebleau Miami Beach where hit makers came together to celebrate the artists at the top of their game and the charts. In addition, DJ Envy held down the VIP section to get reactions from the night's big winners and DJ Irie kept the party going as the show's house DJ.

The first ever "Sucker Free" crown was bestowed upon Jay-Z and Kanye West for the song causing explosions in clubs across the globe, *****'s In Paris, as they took home the 'Club Banger' category. The pair was later honored with the 'Classic Album of the Year' award. Rick Ross was on hand to accept the 'Artist of the Year' award, while Meek Mill took a break from the grind to accept the award for 'Who's Got Next.'

Viewers were able to get in on the action by voting on three award categories as fans clicked their favorite artist to the top spots. With a timeline full of unique TMI tweets was Tyler, The Creator, who took home the 'Must Follow Artist in Social Media' award and coveted 'Rookie of the Year' category. The final viewer-voted win went to YMCMB for 'The Best Crew of 2011' award.

Drawing on the heat and energy only found in Miami Beach, the show hit a new level of excitement when Best Crew winners Lil Wayne and Birdman took to the stage for a high energy, unprecedented performance of the hit single Y.U. Mad.

Hip-hop hit makers, comics and celebrity guest commentators, including DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, DJ Pauly D, Kevin Hart, Meek Mill, Ace Hood, Red Cafe, Funkmaster Flex, Lil Twist, Miss Info, Affion Crocket, Mavado, Tyler, The Creator, DJ Drama, Tyga, Charlamagne Tha God were on-hand to give their un-filtered take on the nominees up to win the gilded "Sucker Free Awards" crown. The commentators also looked back on the most outrageous headline making moments of the year.

A total of seven categories were voted on through a combination of fan voting and via social media, as well as by tastemakers throughout the music and entertainment industry.

Sucker Free has been a staple of MTV2's programming since 2002. In the past year, the series has continued to dominate on Sundays with over 300,000 total weekly viewers and 200,000+ viewers 12-34; nearly +15% above MTV2's total day average. Sucker Free Countdown airs each Sunday at 11am and 11pm.
